In this case it was simply his first glimpse of the female genitalia (at 40 years old.) The border details, sunbursts, ribbons, diagrams, and rather silly captions are highly characteristic of all his works. The detail shows a bit of rather obtuse text, the crescent moon & the "gargoyle" and "barbin" (basin) which in his own special code stood for the male & female sexual organs. | ||||||
