PETZ, page 2
"Petz Abuse," continued...
The following application for two Petz was left under a Petz "litter banner" on a website. I've left out the name of the applicant & the Petz she requested to avoid identification & possible embarrassment. This application is certainly one of the more comprehensive I've seen, but is by no means atypical:
"Hi, I would love to adopt D--- & M----!!! They would have a great time here at the kennel! I take the time to get to know each of my petz, I write everything that I learn about them in there profile, And I let them meet All of my petz, taking notes of who they don't get along with, and who they do get along with! And i let them spend lots of time with familly, and friends! Mixed breedz at my kennel get a lot of the attention, cause they aren't being bred a whole lot, and don't have to be getting ready for the next show all the time! I let them play with there favorit toys, and when they get board of the toys, i get them a new one. I show them only if they want to be shown, and i let them chose there mates. I feed, and groom them Daily. And i make sure they get lotz of exersice and rest to keep them in good shape! There IS one LITTLE thing though. And if you don't agree with me, then you don't have to give me the dogz... I Reward them with treats for doing stuff that I like, and that they do good, like fetching, being nice, coming when called, and stuff like that. And i do dicipline them with the spraybottle for doing stuff that i don't like. ( I only Spray them ONCE Which is NOT abuse, i have done that with a lot of my petz, and they are a lot more loyal than the ones that i didn't do it to, besides that the program it self says to use the spray bottle when being bad... But, I don't spray them a lot, cause they are hardly ever bad. And i don't like doing it, i just have to let them know right from wrong. And all my dogz are happy here, and I have never had a runaway. If you would like updates, Please put your email in their profiles, so i can update you! Thank you soo much for considering!"
A Window into the Mind
1)This applicant promises to spend time with the Pet
2) Exercise (open the program & take out the Pet) daily
3) She promises to give the Pet an interesting & varied environment
4) She will allow it to "choose its own mate."
5) She is honest with the breeder & says she does lightly discipline from time to time.
5)She "has never had a runaway" and
6)offers updates on the adopted Pet.
From this we learn what constitutes Petz Abuse in the mind of this Petz Player:
Keeping the Pet in a file, not playing with it in the PETZ game; tormenting the Pet with the "spray bottle" (discipline tool.)Forcing the Pet to "fall in love" by using the  Mating Spray, and neglect, since neglected petz run away if not taken from the Carrier every time the game is opened.
Other types of Petz Abuse not mentioned in this application:
Throwing the Pet around,
Storing the Pet in a file & merely circulating one posed picture in Petz shows,
Taking "porn" pictures of Petz & making up naughty stories about them,
Rewarding the Pet for fighting or punishing it for timidity or fear,
Repeatedly taking out two petz who do not get along with each other,
Over-breeding and inbreeding to produce a "natural" line that breeds true,
Deleting excessive Petz.
Diversity of Opinion....
Not all players agree on the seriousness or even the existence of Petz Abuse. Some loudly claim--sticking with the facts!--that if there is no "real" living animal, no abuse is possible; that "just because I throw around Petz doesn't mean I would hurt a real animal!" One observant boy pointed out that when a Pet is sprayed it displays not pain but a "startle response" and that when transported to another playscene, it immediately "forgets" the spraying it just received. There are certain boys and older and/or edgier girls in the Community who enjoy teasing younger gamers by posting pictures of Petz being sprayed for amusement, or pretending to run Petz fighting sites. All this might be construed as a rather sadistic type of teasing, although when questioned closely, even younger Petz players--indeed even those who produce the most elaborate & sentimental Anti-Abuse banners!--will admit that their Petz are "not real." Yet in the same breath, they will say that Petz abuse "bothers" them!
