Culture shock

Hollywood star Jessica Simpson couldn't hide her shock as she visited a "fattening hut" - where brides-to-be in western Uganda pile on weight before they wed

Jessica Simpson's show, Price of Beauty, takes her around the world to see things women of different and unique cultures do in the name of beauty.
When she came to Uganda in September 2009, the chiding of the Bahima herdsmen for being "far too skinny" and being told that fatness is the Ugandan ideal of beauty must have been like a soothing balm to her ego, which in that same year had been viciously poked at, shredded and bruised, almost as a direct result of her weight gain.
Chaperoned by a rather obese lady called Judy, she centred her show on a Muhima girl who was getting married the next day.
The girl had, according to her aunts, been kept in a fattening hut for two months and was being fed a minimum of two gourds of milk (5000 calories) per day in order to grow fatter and "look beautiful" for her wedding.
Save from going to the bathroom, she wasn't allowed to engage herself in any activity that would burn her "precious" fat.
Jessica's next stop is Morocco, where ideals of feminine beauty include slimness, luxuriant dark hair and long necks.
