.Letting Go.
A fic about how Adhara got Minstrel and about learning to say good-bye.

"Whoa Vixen, Whoa girl." Adhara Black exclaimed while unloading her pony from the horse trailer. Adhara tightened her grip on the reins as the mare tried to charge down the ramp, Addi always had to unload Vixen with a bridle on. Adhara had owned Vixen for three years, since she was eight and often competed on her. The white(grey in horse terms), 13.2hh, 8 year old Welsh section B X Unicorn mare whose show name was actually Magic Potion had displayed exellence in show jumping though was ornery and wild as her owner. Adhara considered Vixen as the perfect pony.

Ten minutes later, Addi tied Vixen to the float and had begun to braid the mare up when her best friend, Jasmine Potter came up, leading her new 15.3hh chestnut warmblood, Gulliver.

"Hey Addi, you're finally here. Vixen being a brat with the trailer as usual?" Jazz greeted her, stroking Gulli's neck.
"So what's new. I can't wait to finally compete in the Under 12's Open Jumping." Addi replied, rosseting on of the braids and starting on another one.
"Yeah, everyone's saying you're mad for entrying the Open Show Jumping on Vixen. They think you should keep Vixen in the 14hhs and under class or get a bigger horse." Jazz continued, checking the Gulliver's mane braids were still neat.
Adhara glared slightly, staring at Vixen's half braided mane. In the Open jumping for under 12's the jumps went up to 1.3 metres for the jump off and many riders who competed in that class had graduated onto horses instead of ponies so Vixen was dwafed by the larger horses. Rider's who owned pony never really dared to tackle the big jumps. But Adhara knew Vixen could, the mare had heart.
"So, your point being?" Addi mumbled, not looking up from her braiding.
"Addi," Jasmine answered seriously. "Maybe you should get a bigger horse. Vixen can only go so far and high."
"WHAT! I don't need a new horse. Size doesn't matter." Adhara excalimed, dropping the mane comb before retreiving it.
"I'm sorry, it's just a suggested." Jasmine responded rather quickly.
"it's okay." Addi mumbled and continued braiding.

Adhara gathered the reins up as she waited for the bell to signal that she could start her round. Jasmine and her other friend, Daniella had already done their rounds. Dani still owned a pony though for the open division rode her aunt Ginny's(Jazz's mum) Welsh Cob, Willow. Addi was the last rider and there had been no clear rounds. The turns on the course were tight so Vixen might have an advantage though the jumps were higher than the stubborn mare. A murmur rippled through the crowd. many people thought the girl was crazy for riding such a small pony in a big competition. Addi gritted her teeth and started her round as the sound of the bell rung in her ears. Vixen cantered briskly towards the first jump which Vixen cleared easily. At the second last jump, Addi began to feel slightly nervous, the spread was 90cms wide and 1.6ms tall, it had caused much trouble. The other horses refusing or clipping a rail. Adhara glared at the jump with her deep blue eyes and cued Vixen into a gallop. The welsh replied with a burst of speed and leapt strongly over the jump then the last one, Addi's black braid blowing behind her. They had won!

A mere month later, Addi lay on her cousy bed in her rather messy room. Since that first Open Jumping class at Oakvale she had competed in the Open Jumping at Stonely and came fourth. Her next show was at Hogsmede. Suddenly a knock on the door interrupted Adhara's chain of thoughts and a girl around 13 with pale brown hair and blue eyes walked in warily. It was Addi's sister Alyssa. Lyss had always being girly and slightly posh. She often considered Add's pranks uncouth and would watch distastfully as Adhara played the.

"Addi, are you ever going to clean out your room. Anyway, I'm going to my friend Jack Wood's house. You can come if you want, he has a sister your age. Maybe she'll have a good influence on you." Alyssa told Ashara in her usual upper-class tones. Addi wrinkled her nose and replied.
"Nah, I'm going to stay and ride Vixen. I think I know his sister, she is called Faith or something like that, she's probably really dull or girly so no, I don't want to meet her."
"Suit yourself, tahtah." Alyssa answered before leaving the room. Addi got up from her bed and quickly got dressed in her riding robes. With a quick look in the mirror, she grabbed her helmet and headed out to the Black's stables to ride Vixen.

That afternoon Addi did various jumping activities with Vixen, the game mare cleared them strongly to the point she was almost galloping. Adhara ran one of her fair hands through Vixen's wild mane, it was pulled of course but rather thick and untamed when not braided. Vixen shook her head then jumped in and out of some bounce fences. After that Addi took off Vixen's saddle and hacked down to lake in her bathers, curly black hair loose with not a care in the world. Add rode and lead Vix through the water, white foam splashing around the mare's legs. Adhara sighed slightly, in about a year or so she would be too big for Vixen. She was almost too big now and her parents were always suggesting to sell her Vixen but Addi was dertirmined to keep her beloved pony forever. Vixen nudged Addi's arm affectionatly and Addi stroked her neck absent mindedly.

That night Adhara lay snugg under the warm cover of her bed, thinking about Vixen. She was sick and tired of people telling her she need a horse, so what if all of her friend's were riding full sized horses. She grimaced slightly as she remember Ashleigh Malfoy's snide comment at her last horse show as Ash rode past on her expensive Warmblood mare, Dameer of 'I can't understand why you think you can win on that midget.' Addi pushed back a strand of ebony hair from her face, trying to forget that also at that show a man who's daughter was in the
