KATHERINE ANNWEN DE GUZMAN |
Katherine de Guzman shows tremen-dous improvement in this photograph prior to her departure for the 2000 Miss World Pageant. No longer just the 'girl next door,' the pretty coed now exudes confidence, regal bearing, sophistica- tion, and the natural 'glow' of a true competitor! Kathy, good luck to you and may you bring home the bacon! |

WHAT TWO YEARS CAN DO
Two years ago, 1998 Miss Philippines World delegate Rachel Soriano (at right) barely made heads turn both locally and in the international stage. Today, being the official appointed rep- resentative of the country in the Miss Tourism World competi- tion, her looks have gone from simple to unbelievable! Rachel, Rachel, why did you not look like this (left) when you compe-ted in the 1998 Miss World and perhaps given Israel's Linor Abargil a run for her money? Better still, you could have been next year's Miss Universe repre-sentative! Why not? Things are lovelier the second time around! Never the less, we wish you luck as you compete once again and maybe, just maybe, partiality and politics aside, your enduring beauty will be rewarded with a much deserved international title! Go girl, and do us all proud! |

"Rachel reminds me a lot of Miriam Q. here. It's obvious why. The trademark pose is obvious. Was she given last minute pointers by Miss Quiambao herself?" - Heimlich |

FLASHBACK FLASHBACK |

A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE : 1973 AND THE YEAR 2000 Yes, decades apart, but still very much the same! |
SOMEWHERE IN TIME
What a difference 27 years can make! Joanna Penaloza (far left), 2000 Miss Philippines In-ternational, looks so sultry and made up in her red evening gown while Evangeline Pascual (left), 1973 Miss Republic of the Philippines, looks all so regal, sweet and light in her national costume! Indeed times have changed. Gone is the simple, natural beauty of the 60's and the 70's. Today, a beauty queen has to be toned and honed in order to keep up with the pageant powerhouses of beauty and plastic surgery. What has happened to the all important natural look? Filipinas in general, are naturally beautiful. No need for surgical enhancements in most cases! The imperfection itself is an asset. Don't we all dream of the time when a girl won solely by her God given attributes? . . .Heimlich |

IMAGES OF MISS UNIVERSE 1994
Who could forget the second time Miss Universe was held in Philippine shores? The year 1994 was exactly 20 years after the first one was held in 1974! Let us all reminisce a bit and relive those moments. On the picture at left is Dayanara Torres, Miss Universe 0f 1993 during rehearsals at the Philippine International Convention Center. 1994 was also the year that the 'little sisters' ap- peared on stage for the very last time. Was it a serious mistake to have let this tradition retire so suddenly? |

MISS WORLD 2000 DELEGATES
What better venue for the Miss World 2000 bathing suit competition than the paradise islands of the Maldives? The 50th aniversary of the pageant culminates on the coronation night at the Millenium Dome on November 30, 2000. Who will be the lucky girl this time? The pageant will be crowning it's new queen without its founder, Eric Morley, who sadly passed away earlier. For now, we can only speculate as to who will be the new Miss World. Miss India again? Miss Venezuela? Miss USA? Or Miss Philippines?
