Biography:
Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on April 14 1977 in New York. An only child, she was raised on New York's Upper East Side by her mother, Rosellen Gellar, a schoolteacher.

Sarah was discovered in a restaurant by a talent agent at the tender age of 4 Three weeks later she was on the set of her first film, An Invasion of Privacy. This chance discovery was to later boost her professional career which has lasted 18 of her 21 years of life.

A few weeks after that she was cast in her first TV commercial. The Burger King commercial she did in 1982 was the first commercial to ever mention a competitor by name, in which she complained that McDonalds served skimpy burgers. Consequently, McDonald's sued her as well as Burger King, thus beginning the infamous "Battle of the Burgers. She also couldn't enter a McDonald's unless she was in disguise due to truth in advertising ("I only eat at Burger King" was one of her lines in the commercial). Ironically, McDonalds is now a sponsor of the WB's hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sarah went to Columbia Grammar School on 93rd Street (New York). When Sarah was just seven years old her father divorced her mother. She will not discuss her father publicly. As a result of her acting success, Sarah felt isolated and was left out of things by her fellow students. Life became a little easier though when Sarah changed schools and started at New York's famous Professional Children's School. She said that at that stage her acting helped pay for her education.

In addition to having been one of the two regular hostesses of the TV talk show, "Girl Talk," Sarah is a veteran of TV, film, and stage. She has appeared with Matthew Broderick and Eric Stoltz in The Widow Claire at the Circle in the Square, and had a feature film open in which she co-starred with Sally Kirkland and Robert Lupone. She has appeared on Spenser: For Hire, Love, Sidney, The David Letterman Show and The Regis Philbin Show. She has done over 100 commercials and is a Wilhelmina Model. She has appeared in Crossbow which she filmed in France and Switzerland. Sarah played Molly in the original cast of Neil Simon's Jake's Women.

At the age of fourteen, Sarah won her first major role as the young Jacqueline Bouvier in the NBC TV Mini Series, A Woman Named Jackie (1991). In 1992, Sarah played Sydney Rutledge in the TV series Swans Crossing.

She finished High School early, graduating from the Professional Children's School two years early (when she was 15) with a 96.7 grade point average [100 is perfect]. She said "I would have had a 97 average but I got a B+ in trigonometry, which was my fault for taking it in the ninth grade." Despite her acting success her mom made sure that school came first "If I ever got below an A- on a report card I had to stop working. That was why my studies always had to come first. If I had a big test, that was more important than a commercial or a job and at any point if I wanted to stop acting that was going to be my decision. After I graduated from high school I said I'd give myself two years to really focus on my career and then if it wasn't going well I would go back to college full time."

Her first major break happened in 1993 when she was cast in the role of Kendall Hart in the very popular and long-lived soap opera, All My Children(1993-1995), which earned her a coveted Emmy Award in the Lead Young Actress category.

Although she had given the producers 6 months notice of her decision to leave the show, she made her decision public the day after the Emmy win. After 2 years, Sarah left the set of AMC and moved to California to seek new fame in films or TV.

In 1996, Sarah was picked as the lead of a new series called Buffy the Vampire Slayer based on the movie by the same name. Warner Brothers bought 13 episodes of the show, and although ratings of the pilot were the highest ever of any of the WB lineup, it ranked 100th out of 107 programs in the Nielson ratings. Warner Brothers renewed the show for another 22 episodes.

In June of 1997, Sarah finished shooting I Know What You Did Last Summer which stars her and Jenniffer Love Hewitt as teens that try to cover up a hit and run. It was released on October 17th and became number one that weekend, earning a profit in just two days. Shortly after filming IKWYDLS, Sarah flew down to Atlanta, GA to film Scream 2, which had the largest December opening of a film and made more money in it's first weekend than the other top 9 films combined. Sarah next took a break from the horror genre to film Cruel Intentions and Simply Irresistible.

On March 10, 1998, Sarah won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award in the Best Supporting Actress Horror category for her role in I Know What You Did Last Summer. On August 12th, 1999, Sarah signed a contract with Maybelline to become the first celebrity spokeswoman since Linda Carter in the late 70's, and can be seen in television and print advertising for the makeup company.

The new millennium has been very favorable to Sarah so far. In 2000, she won a few awards given out by the Teen Choice Awards and the MTV Movie awards. In 2001 she earned a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series Drama category in the Golden Globe Awards. Then she became engaged to Freddie Prinze Jr. on her birthday in April. The Teen Choice Awards also honored Sarah that summer with an Extraordinary Achievement Award.

In 2002, Scooby Doo, the movie Sarah co-starred in with Freddie, Matt Lillard and Linda Cardellini, became a summer blockbuster earning a whopping $250 million worldwide. In June she co-hosted the MTV Movie Awards, which became the highest rated in the show's history. This year also marked the most memorable occasion in her personal life. On September 1, 2002, Sarah and Freddie exchanged their marriage vows in a private ceremony in Mexico. In October, Sarah was honored with a Woman of The Year Award by Glamour Magazine during their Annual Women of The Year Awards.

Outside of her acting career, Sarah has taken 5 years of Tae Kwon Do, currently a brown belt, and has also studied boxing, kickboxing, street fighting, and gymnastics. She was also a competitive figure skater for 3 years and was ranked 3rd in the New York Sate regional competition. Other interests include Rollerblading, water skiing, and it is said that she occasionally goes Cliff Diving and Scuba Diving. Of course she also enjoys shopping.

Although it seems that Sarah Michelle Gellar has already achieved a lot in her career, we believe that this is only the beginning...
