The McWORKOUT GUIDE
By: McGill
Hey everyone!
About 12 years ago, I started weight lifting and working out. My weight lifting career took off mainly around 6 years ago, when I began to really get into it. Since then, I have seen a HUGE improvement in my appearance, strength, and the overall respect towards me. Here are some helpful tips and tricks that I have picked up over the years and that have worked for me so far.
Rules For Working Out, Training, Weight Lifting:
1. Safety First- Never at any time should you be careless in the gym, at your house, or wherever you go to train. When handling equipment, always make sure that you have them properly set up, and if there are clips that are used to hold the weights at either end (for example with the bench press) always clip them in the proper fashion.
2. Over Doing- Every man, if serious about training and working out, always want to see the maximum weight that they can lift, pull, push, curl etc. Advice: NEVER TRY TO FIND YOUR MAXIMUM WEIGHT! One of the highest reasons why people in the gymnasium get injured or die is from weights being dropped on themselves, or if the weight is too much and they strain themselves, thus tearing muscles. Work with weight that you know you can handle atleast five repetitions. If tired, set the weights down, and rest, do not continue, it is unhealthy for your body.
3. Always Have A Spotter- When bench pressing, I strongly recommend having a spotter to catch the bar if it drops. By doing this, you decrease the chance of injury/death, and increase the chance of a friend/work out buddy. If lifting weight that is relatively easy to you, and you are doing multiple sets and reps with them, a spotter might not be neccessary, it's your choice. When Lifting the heavier weights, I would deffenately have a spotter to help you.
4. Be Respectfull Towards Others- Self Explanatory. If you are respectfull to people, then you will be respected, and this could lead to trust/friendship. If ever in a crisis, had a problem, or needed tips at the gym, it's always good to have someone that can help you out. If you were rude, disrespectful to that person in the past, they might not want to help you out, atleast if you weren't about to die, then they would probably help you.
5. Give Help/Recieve Help- Goin along with #4, it's good to have a good reputationg for this one. If somebody is asking you how to do something in the gym, may it be building muscle, or starting the treadmill, it's never a bad idea to help them out. In return, if you had a question and asked someone, and they go along with #4, then they might aswell help you. It's always good to lend a helping hand.
Getting Started
To start things off, one must first be acquianted with their gym, and the exercise equipment therein. Now, when I say gym, I don't necessarily mean a room with weights lieing around here and there, a huge bench in one corner, a cable machine in the other corner, and thousands of posters of the human body (though this wouldn't be a bad setup). A gym is merely the place where one goes in order to work out. It could be your bedroom with some dumbells, or even your backyard, whatever works. I will advise that you have atleast a flat weight bench, nothing fancy. If you're looking for one, I have included links at the bottom of this page to where you can shop for weightlifting accessories.
