Time Brings Change Part 4

Angel was pacing back and forth while Cordy watched
impatiently. "Will you stop with the worried guy pace mode. It's
driving me nuts." She didn't want to admit it but she was worried to.
Dawn had been upset, thanks to Angel, he really had to learn when to
keep his mouth shut.

Angel looked up and growled a little. "Look I'm sorry but I'm worried
about her. You two are all I have, I'll be damned if I let something
happen to either of you."

Cordy stood up and took his hand in hers. "I know the feeling, you
think I like the idea of Dawn in trouble. You two are all I have in
this world. We just have to keep hoping, she's a big girl, she can
take care of herself."

"Not the way she left here. If anything happened to her it would be
my fault. Again." Angel sat on the couch head in his hands.

"What do you mean again?" Cordy was worried she hadn't seen him like
this in a long time.

"How many people have to die because I couldn't get there in time. Or
worse, because I killed them." He stood again vamped out and
pacing. "If anything-"

Angel stopped when he heard the door open, once he saw Dawn he pulled
her into his arms before she even knew he was there.

Dawn nearly screamed when Angel grabbed her. What was with the huggy
thing? Angel was a loving guy, but never big on the hugs. "Ah, Angel?
Not that I mind but why are you squeezing the life out of me?"

Angel pulled back, gold eyes full of concern looking at her. "I
thought something had happened to you. I went up to your room to
apoloze for the whole Spike thing, but you were gone-"

"You talk about me? Luv I'm flattered." Spike had hidden in the
shadows by the kitchen watching Angel get all touchy feely with Dawn,
but he couldn't resist once his name had been mentioned.

Angel whipped around and growled at Spike. "What the hell are you
doing in my house?"

Dawn was freaking out, what if angel did something stupid, like stake
Spike. "Angel he came-"

Angel whipped back around to glare at Dawn, she wouldn't have been as
intimidated if he hadn't been all grrr. "You knew." It wasn't a
question, but a statement, an accusing one at that.

"I was out walking and he appeared out of nowhere. I didn't know
where else to go." She started crying, one part cause she was upset,
and the other cause she knew Angel was a sucker when she turned on
the water works. "I-I'm sorry I ever came back here."

Angel immediately softened all thoughts of staking Spike flew from
his mind. "Don't be sorry you came home. Please, Dawn, I'm sorry. You
know how I feel about him." He took Dawn in his arms again, much to
the chargin of Cordy and Spike, who despite their bets efforts were
seething with jealousy.

Angel turned back around, human mask back in place. He looked at
Cordy first, then at Spike. "You can stay for the night. But tomorrow
I want you out."

"Gee thanks grand dad, you're the best." He flashed one of his cocky
grins as he walked up to Dawn and put his arm around her. "So Little
Bit do I get to sleep in your bed?" That and the sound of Dawns
laughter were the last things angel heard as they walked up the
stairs.

"If he so much as touches her, I'm going to kill him very slowly."
Angel was fuming, how had he let Dawns tears get to him like that?

Cordy had had enough of watching Angel fawn over Dawn. "I'm going to
bed." She had all the intention of storming off when Angel's hand on
her arm stopped her.

"Where are you going? We haven't watched that show you love...the
um....it has files in the tittle."

Cordy chuckled at Angels attempts to join the 21st century. "It's
called the X-files and you seemed to upset over Dawn and Spike-"

"I'm not going to think about that bleached idiot till tomorrow. For
now I want to sit on the couch and relax." Angel didn't want to tell
her that he would much rather cuddle up with her on the couch. He
didn't think that would go over well. She was his bestfriend. No
matter how much he wished it to be more.

"Ok I'll go get the pop corn and you turn on the TV." Cordy smiled to
herself, she knew this wasn't any big step towards romance, but it
was somewhere to start.
