| Accident Reconstruction is an independent investigation into a traffic crash, to determine the cause. The sequence of events leading to the crash can be broken down to answer such questions as: where was the first car when the second car pulled from the intersection, or how fast was the car going at the beginning of the skid marks, etc. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Normally Accident Reconstructionists are hired when a party in a crash decides to file a lawsuit against the other party, and needs an independent witness to prove the facts of the incident. The Accident Reconstructionist can investigate the crash and provide an expert opinion as to how the crash occurred. This investigation can support the plaintiff's case, or can be used by the defense to reduce potential liability. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is involved in the Reconstruction process? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Every crash is different, and the process depends on the issues the client wants proven. During an in-depth investigation, all crash reports are reviewed, witness statements are analyzed to determine if they are credible (was the witness in a position to observe the crash, was the witness biased against one of the drivers, did the witness contribute, etc.), photos and drawings of the crash scene are reviewed to determine placement of vehicles and evidence, the scene is visited to document, anything that could impair vision or distract drivers, if available the vehicles are inspected to determine the angle of impact, the severity of impact, and identify any possible mechanical causes of the crash. Once the investigation is completed, a formal report is prepared and submitted to the client. This final report is normally used to persuade the other party not to take the case to trial. If necessary, the results of the investigation will be brought into court as evidence. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
