Franz was my special Chinese Cat... I found him in the crawl space of a shop in Taipei. He was all white as a kitten with these enormous blue eyes. He was my handsome, special boy and he stole my heart away. We had a love affair for 5 good years. In July 2000, after surgeries, countless medicines and feeding tubes, he passed away. He fought long and hard, but in the end I had to make the hardest decision of my life. He helped me through one of the most trying times in my life and I hope I did the same for him. I miss him.

Baobei was my first adoption in Taiwan. She was just a tiny thing hiding underneath a piece of plywood in a dirty outdoor meat market. The freckle on her nose looked like dirt - but it never washed away! She and Franz were best buddies and she mothered him when he arrived home, a mere 5 weeks old and orphaned. Baobei hasn't been the same without her companion. Now she spends most of her time as close to my computer as she can get, trying to absorb the warmth. She won't snuggle with any of the other cats. She misses Franzie too.

Flea came next...adopted her on a vulnerable Saturday at PetsMart...learned a lesson there - never go to PetsMart on the weekends! Her name is not in honor of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but rather the infestation she brought with her! Heather and I were living together in an apartment that was flea free... We quickly picked her name and bombed the place!

And just when I thought I had rescued enough of the world's forgotten creatures...Along came Jack (Jack-o-lantern) and Gus (Angus). Gus officially belongs to my sister though he has never lived with her. She named him though! The brothers black came to me by default when my neighbor took in a stray that was pregnant. Jack is now a very fat and lazy, long haired fur ball and Gus is a very active short haired love bug who thinks he is a dog. Plays with the dogs, drinks from the dog bowl, and tries to follow when we go for walks. Maybe he is afraid he will end up fat and happy like his brother! (Jack passed away in November 2001, on Thanksgiving Day. Gus and I miss him terribly)
