STEMS AND SEEDS
10/30/01
So I guess this is my chance to introduce myself, I'm Rob. I was chosen to write for HEAVYDUTIE. I suppose because I'm probably the only one who would do it. Seeing as I have some extra time on my hands, I said what the hell. It couldn't hurt.
I suppose the first issue to bring to hand is America's war on terrorism. It seems to be what is filling western civilizations Tv's and radio's in endless hours of complete and utter numbness.
Are these attacks on Afghanistan justified? The question many in the political world are asking themselves and other nations. It's a fine line between doing the right thing and terrorism itself.
Yes, I believe US reports and findings that Osama Bin Laden is the "mastermind" behind the WTC attacks and that he needs to be brought to justice. There are few outside the Al Queda organization that would care to refute this matter, but are the nations of the free world really addressing the issue at hand properly and justly? That is a question that this writer has yet to really understand.
The US is after Bin Laden, they want to teach him and all other terrorist organizations a lesson in ediquite. So they start to drop bombs on his country where he is "believed to be." In doing so there have been many deaths and injuries to the people of this Muslim nation, innocent people. Killing innocent people while trying to eliminate another who they have no idea his whereabouts? Isn't this terrorism in itself? "Smoking someone out," translates in laymens terms to "scaring the shit out of you until you mess up and we find you." Yet still it is the innocent being terrorized.
Shouldn't the US have focused all their energy and resources into intelligence before "jumping into" this full scale war? I bet if they had waited him out and kept cutting the Al Queda funding he would have emerged sooner or later, he has in the past. We know all too well that that's not the scenario that unfolded, so now we must deal with seeing and hearing reports of more and more damage being inflicted on the Taliban and the Al Queda organization with no clear results of progress or loss of morale in Taliban troops.
Who knows, maybe they are doing the right thing, but at what cost? Deaths of innocent people, Anthrax retaliation attacks that seem to be getting worse before getting better. Things have gotten a little out of hand on this planet, things are pointing towards a potential WWIII now with Iraq getting their nose into the conflict. The best we can do to keep our sanity is to try and ignore all the "fluff" news coverage and interviews with retired "experts" giving their opinions on what is happening. Use your head and figure out what is actually news and what is "hot topic air-time filler." Unless you hear it directly from the Senate or other related government official, consider it B.S.
So if this does turn out to be the end of the world, atleast I know that I had the chance to tell you all to blow me!
