A short note on tuning before you start jammin'...most people don't understand this:
If the tuning on the top of the tab says for example: Standard Tuning step down
It means that you can play the song in standard tuning but on the recorded version of it
Nirvana detuned their guitars half a step so if you want to jam along the record
You should detune your guitar also to be in tune. All the tunings are listed in the
"Tunings for each Nirvana song" part. And also, during live shows Nirvana definitely didn't
tune down the whole step to play Come as you are, for instance, and then tuned back for Sliver...etc.
I can't believe that some people believe that they did it...just in the studio, not in concerts.
They stayed in the same tuning the whole set except for the end (or beginning) when they switched
to drop-d tuning (and Kurt eventually wound his high e up a step to play Blew). They usually stayed in
Standard tuning (didn't detune), but I've heard of a 12/88 bootleg from Hoquaim and they were tuned down a whole step
for the whole set. And before the summer 1992 they started tuning down a step for the rest of
their shows. This info is helpful for jamming along bootlegs. Thank you very much for reading this.
