M-“ITS TIME!” Matt yelled. He was terrified.
P-“Baby, calm down. We have plenty of time. Just breathe” Paige
calmed her husband down. Once he was back to normal she smiled at him. However
her smile quickly faded when another contraction hit, hard.
M-“Oh god, are you ok baby? Of course you’re not ok. Alright, we’re
going to the hospital.”
P-“You get dressed, get the bags, don’t forget your cell and I’ll
meet you downstairs.”
M-“How are you so calm about this?”
P-“I’m a woman, I can do anything” She smiled at him. He kissed
her on the cheek and went into action. 10 minutes later they were out the door
and driving out of the driveway.
P-“Matt when we get to the hospital call everyone, did you remember your
cell?”
M-“Yep, I got it.”
P-“Good, everything’s going to be fine”
M-“You’re amazing”
P-“Yeah well, cherish this now, because I predict then in about an hour,
this whole calm thing is going straight out the window.” Matt laughed.
M-“Is the pain really bad?” Paige shook her head no.
P-“I’ve had worse” Matt was shocked to here such a thing
M-“You’ve had worse pain then contractions?”
P-“Matt, I’m a woman, of course I have, now let’s get off
this subject into that hospital coming up on the right.”
M-“Shit!” Matt quickly turned into the hospital.
Once inside, the nurses took Paige into a pre-labor room while Matt filled
out some papers and called the family. He joined his wife just as Dr. Vanessa
Carter came to check on her progress.
D-“Hey, so we’re ready to have these babies are we?”
P-“Apparently, they’re not really giving me much of a choice in
the matter” The two laughed.
M-“How are you two so calm?” Matt was, well, anxious. Paige and
Vanessa just laughed more.
D-“Matt, I have done this, many a time, and Paige is very strong, not
to mention, she’s a woman”
M-“I know, she keeps reminding me of that”
D-“Good, now you really have to calm down, for Paige’s sake.”
Matt nodded.
D-“Now let’s just see how far along you are?” The doctor examined
Paige and estimated that in about 2 hours there would be two new additions to
the Hardy clan. Matt finally calmed down.
1 hour and 45 minutes later…
8:00am Matt held Paige’s hand as the doctor announced that they had two
healthy baby girls.
D-“10 fingers, 10 toes, on both of them. Absolutely perfect” She
smiled. Paige flopped back on the bed and silently cried tears of joy. Not to
mention she was so exhausted she couldn’t do anything else. Matt squeezed
her hand and she opened her eyes. She smiled weakly at him as he kissed her
on the forehead.
M-“You did it, you are so amazing” Paige smiled at him weakly.
P-“Again Matt, I’m just a woman, women have been doing this for
centuries” She couldn’t stop her eyes from falling shut. She was
just so tired. Vanessa came back into the room.
D-“Here they are, here are your daughters”
M-“Paige, baby, (she opened her eyes)”
P-“Oh my babies, oh give them to me, please” Vanessa passed her
the girls and Paige started to cry. She rubbed their chubby little cheeks and
looked up at Matt. She could tell he was trying not to cry. She smiled at him.
P-“We finally have our girls” Matt nodded. Paige handed Matt the
babies, and once he held them in his arms, he couldn’t hold the tears
in any longer. They silently ran unchecked down his cheeks. He rocked them in
his arms and whispered.
M-“My girls, I’m your daddy. I will always love you, no matter what”
Paige smiled and more tears fell down her cheeks. Vanessa who had been silently
watching the scene spoke up.
D-“You better get out there Dad, there are a lot of anxious people out
there” Matt smiled up at her and gave the babies back to Paige. He kissed
her on the forehead and whispered in her ear.
M-“I’ll be right back, I love you so much” She smiled up at
him
P-“I love you too” Matt walked towards the door then stopped.
M-“Vanessa, can I talk to you for a minute?” Vanessa nodded and
they left the room.
D-“What’s up Matt?”
M-“Thank you” Vanessa smiled at him
D-“You’re welcome.”
M-“No really, you don’t know how much I...” He paused, Vanessa
put her hand on his arm.
D-“You’re welcome Matt, you know I wouldn’t let anything happen
to her” Matt nodded and hugged his friend.
D-“Go tell the family the good news, oh and say hello to Jeff for me”
Matt smiled.
M-“I will” Matt turned and walked down the hall to the waiting room
as Dr. Vanessa went back into the delivery room, to take care of Paige.
As soon as the double doors swung open in the Waiting room, everyone stood up.
Earlier they had all been sitting around talking, awaiting the news, everyone
but Jeff who had his head back and his beanie pulled over his eyes. The group
was discussing how big the family had become.
Paul (brother)-“The girls are going to have 4 Uncles, 3 Aunts, 3 grandparents”
Jeff cut him off.
J-“And a partridge in a pear tree” he pulled the beanie from over
his eyes.
Paul-“Very funny man, then there’s all the people who will be called
Uncles and Aunts. This is one big family” Paul continued on with his conversation
and Jeff pulled the material of his beanie back over his eyes.
So there stood 10 anxious family members and Matt with a big smile on his face.
M-“2 healthy baby girls and a very tired mom, but all healthy” There
were 10 sighs of relief. Everyone hugged Matt one by one, Jeff the last and
the longest. The three of them had been through so much together, and now everything
was perfect.
Paige’s Mom-“When can we go in and see her?”
M-“Oh um, unfortunately not till tonight, she’s really beat, can
barely keep her eyes open”
PM-“Ok well, can you tell her everyone’s thinking of her and we’ll
see her then”
M-“Of course I will”
PM-“We should all go then, we’ll see you tonight Matt” Matt
nodded and watched as they all turned to leave. He called Jeff back though.
J-“What’s up man?”
M-“She want’s to see you”
J-“You sure she’s up for visitors?”
M-“Yeah man, you have to come see her, or she’ll kick my ass”
Jeff laughed.
J-“Ok, Lead the way”
The two walked to Paige’s room (she’s now out of the delivery room)
in silence. When they got there they found Paige sitting up, the girls in her
arms.
M-“Hey honey” Matt walked over to her and sat on the bed beside
her.
M-“I brought someone to see you” Paige smiled.
P-“Good, so where is my boy?” She smiled; just then Jeff walked
in, cautiously. Paige couldn’t figure that one out.
P-“Come over here Jeff” He smiled and walked over to her. Paige
turned her attention to the babies. She looked at them and to Jeff as she said.
P-“Girl’s this is your Uncle Jeff, don’t ever listen to anything
he says”
J-“Hey!” Paige laughed.
P-“You wanna hold them?” Jeff’s face lit up.
J-“Can I?”
P-“Of course you can silly, they’re your nieces” Jeff’s
face fell.
J-“ Oh the kids, right”
M-“What the hell?”
J-“Relax, I’m kidding” He laughed as Matt gave him a dirty
look. Paige handed Jeff the girls.
Jeff looked down at them and smiled, he had never seen anything more beautiful
than the treasures he held in his arms right then.
J-“So who am I looking at” Matt spoke up.
M-“The princess in your right arm is Ruby and the goddess in your left
is Kasey”
J-“Hey there angels, you two are going to break a lot of guys hearts you
when you grow up in to the stunning ladies I just know you’re going to
be, and you know what, I’m going to teach you how to wrestle. (All three
laughed) Yes I am, you two are going to be highflying divas. But don’t
even think about posing for those magazines. You here me” The girls only
gooed and drooled in response, their little eyes closed looking angelic. “I
will always protect you, and be here for you” Matt and Paige smiled at
Jeff… Paige couldn’t help it anymore, her eyes slipped shut and
she fell asleep. Matt turned to look at her and saw that she had drifted off.
He sat up and moved over to Jeff. He leaned in and whispered that Paige was
asleep. Jeff put the girls down into their bassinet beside Paige’s bed
and the two men stepped out of the room.
J-“They’re beautiful man”
M-“I know, their absolutely perfect” Jeff nodded.
J-“You are the luckiest man in the world, you know that?”
M-“I know” Matt smiled.
J-“I’ll see you tonight” Matt nodded and the two hugged before
Jeff left and Matt went back into Paige’s room. He stood at the foot of
the bed and watched as Paige slept. He couldn’t help but think how beautiful
she was. She’d argued earlier that she must have looked awful but to him
she just looked absolutely stunning. He stood there and remembered how he almost
lost her and got an awful feeling in the pit of his stomach. He needed to hold
her, so he walked around to the side of the bed and lay beside her. Her held
her to him and kissed her neck lightly. He fell asleep there, his wife in his
arms and his daughters beside him. He swore right there that he would never
ever let anything happen to his girls, Paige, Ruby and Kasey. They were his
girls and he would protect them and love them with all that he was forever.
I would say that ‘they lived happily ever after’ but anyone who is married with children knows that is a load of bullshit. But they lived, and that is the whole point. I mean isn’t that what life is all about? Family, friends and Love, without them we are nothing.
