Description: Something has come between Matt and Jeff Hardy. Who or what could
it be?
Matt stood outside Jeff's hotel room door, trying to get the courage to go inside.
He knew it wasn't going to be easy to get the only woman he had ever loved to forgive him, and why should she after the way he treated her. He didn't deserve her, Jeff was right. But he had to try.
Matt slid the key into the door, he opened it slowly. He heard her voice then, she sounded defeated, lost and alone. Paige turned towards the door when she heard the key slide in.
P-"Jeff?" Matt walked through the door then and let it close behind him. Paige just stood silent and in shock. She couldn't move, she couldn't speak, she didn't even know how she felt. A part of her was screaming at her to run straight into his arms, while another told her to stand her ground and as soon as he got close enough to hit him for all she was worth. Instead she just stood silent and still. Matt inched closer to her. He spoke,
M-"I'm sorry baby" Paige was totally shocked, out of all the things she thought he was going to do that was not one of them. Matt apologised. She had no clue what to do now. Matt was still moving closer to her. Now he stood only 2 feet away. She could smell his cologne. Oh god, she was melting, she had to stay strong.
P-"What?" She finally found her voice.
M-"I'm sorry, I love you so much and all I’ve done for the past 2 years is hurt you. I can't say it enough, I'm sorry. Please forgive me, although I can never forgive myself"
P-"Your sorry, your sorry," Paige laughed coldly.
P-"After everything you put me through you're sorry"
M-"Paige, I know that everything that has happened over the past two years is my fault and mine alone, I can never make up for it, and I can never say sorry enough, but I promise that I will spend everyday of the rest of my life trying." Paige looked deep in his eyes and saw his sincerity. More than that she saw the man she fell in love with. She thought she was going to cry, she had to control her self from jumping into his arms. Paige kept telling herself 'remember what he did to you'.
P-"Matt (she said with a soft tone), You promised me once, that you would never break my heart, that you would never hurt me, that you would never leave me. You said I would never feel alone. Forgive me if I don't believe you will keep your promises anymore when you broke all of them."
M-"I know, Is there anything I can do right now, to make you believe me?" Paige looked him dead in the eyes and said.
P-"Tell me.... Tell me what happened to you, what made you become a totally different person in a day?"
Matt looked at the floor and back at Paige.
M-"Adam"
P-"What?"
M-"Adam, its long story, will you let me explain?"
Paige nodded yes and sat on the bed. Matt sat beside her, but as soon as he did she moved away from him. Matt took a deep breath and began.
Paige sat and listened as Matt told her everything about Adam and what he had said that caused Matt to loose all faith in her. But he could never stop loving her.
Paige just sat there quietly listening to everything Matt said. She couldn't believe the story he told her. She noticed something though. He never explained why he believed Adam over his own wife or that he'd never confronted her about it but what mattered most to Paige right then was why Matt kept visiting her. The other things she would definitely make him explain later, but first she wanted to know why he used her.
Paige took a deep breath and began.
P-"Why did you keep coming back? Why would you come home, sleep with me and be gone before I woke up the next morning? Did you need to make me feel like dirt, to treat me like I didn't matter, did it make it easier for you? Why Matt, tell me because I don't understand how you could do that to someone you say you love." Matt was shocked at what Paige believed, he dropped to his knees in front of her, he looked her in the eyes, he knew she would see what he felt if she looked in his eyes, and said.
M-"No baby, I kept coming back because I couldn’t keep myself away. I would leave because I knew that if I didn't leave while you were asleep I never would. I wouldn't have the strength. I never wanted to make you feel like dirt. It killed me to know you were hurting, but I couldn't stay away, I tried but everytime I came home I could feel you. You were everywhere. I would loose all resolve to stay away. I tried not to think about you everyday. I tried to stay away, but I couldn't. I didn't want to. I believed that the one person I was meant to spend the rest of my life with had betrayed me and no matter what I did I couldn't stop loving you. I told you once you were my heart, you were my soul, that without you I was only half a person. You completed me. I was wrong, without you I am nothing." Paige started to cry she didn't move, but the tears rolled down her cheeks unchecked.
M-"I am so sorry baby, Please let me spend the rest of my life trying to make up for it." Paige shook her head no. Matt thought he was going to cry now.
P-"How do I know you are not going to do this again."
M-"Because I never make the same mistake twice. Please let me come home" Paige looked at Matt for a minute and then put her head in her hands. She looked back up at Matt and ran a hand through her hair.
P-"I need time, to think about everything that you have told me. Give me that"
M-"Anything you want, just know I love you so much"
P-"I know" with that Matt turned and walked towards the door, when he opened the door and was on his way out Paige whispered.
P-"I love you too". The door clicked shut, and Paige collapsed on the bed crying.
Jeff saw Matt leave the room and walked up to him.
J-"What happened?"
M-"I don't know, we talked and she said she needed time to think about everything, to process it all."
J-"That's good Matt, you didn't lie to her, did you?"
M-"NO! I could never lie to her" Jeff just nodded his head.
J-"Give me my key back"
M-"Oh yeah sure, here" Matt handed Jeff the key.
J-"Thanks, it'll be ok ( matt nodded ) I'm gonna check on her" Again Matt nodded and retreated back to his room. When Jeff walked in, he found Paige on the bed crying, he cradled her in his arms and held her until the tears and the sobs that racked her body subsided. Paige told him everything that happened and everything that was said. She told him that she didn't know what to do, to believe him, to trust him or to kick him to the curb. Jeff responded with.
J-"Do what your heart tells you, not your mind" Paige nodded.
J-"What does your heart tell you?" Paige said with tears running down her face
P-"To run to him, to tell him I love him and I always have, to go get my husband back."
J-"Than that's what you do" he smiled. She smiled back at him and hugged him to her.
P-"I love you Jeff, you are the best friend anyone could ever have, and an even better brother!"
J-"It helps when you have an even greater sister" She couldn't help but smile.
J-"Now go, go get your life back, I want my family back too"
With that Paige ran out the room, in search of Matt.
