MATHEW FINDS HIS WAY 11/15/03 Nora: What happened? Where's Matthew? You didnt get Matthew, did you? You didnt get -- I thought this was all set up! That's the only reason I let you talk me out of going! I -- I swore on Matthew's life! John: MacIver never showed up. Nora: What? Bo: We'll find him, and we'll get Matthew back. Nora: He still has my baby. He still has our son! Rae: Nora, you know Bo is going to do everything possible to get Matthew back. You know that. Bo: I'll be damned if I let MacIver hurt another living soul. (Next scene) Troy: They think I'm an idiot. They think I'm stupid, but I'm not stupid. I can't trust her. I can't trust her. She'd have cops everywhere if I told her where we were. Matthew: Are you talking about my mom? Troy: Look, Matthew, I shouldn't have taken you, but I did. And I can't give you back now. Not yet. Not until I can prove that I didnt do anything wrong. Matthew: How are you going to do that? Troy: I dont know. I dont know -- I dont know anything. I'm just so tired right now. Matthew: Maybe you should sleep on it. That's what my mom tells me when I can't get my homework right. Troy: Yeah. Yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe I should go to sleep. You should get some sleep, too. Ok? You're going to stay right here, right? (Next scene) Bo: I'd like you to run a picture on the news. It's a little boy who's missing. He's -- John: Bo -- the boy is missing. His name is Matthew Rappaport. He's 8 years old. He has dark brown hair. We're going to fax you a photo. He was last seen wearing a -- Nora: I just want to talk to Matthew again, you know, just to make sure that he's ok Rae: You know, Troy always liked Matthew. Nora: Yeah. Rae: And he has no history of hurting children. Nora: He's killed at least nine women. Rae: Yes, all of which fit a certain profile and fed into Troy's compulsion. Matthew's not part of that, Nora. Nora: No, but I am, and Matthew's connected to me. Rae: I know, but I still dont think he's going to hurt Matthew. I dont. Nora: Then why won't he let him go? Why is he putting Matthew through this? What -- what -- Bo: Nothing yet. But the television stations are going to run his picture, and we're sending one over right now. John: Search parties are still at it. Those roadblocks are still in place. We're going to get him. Nora: I'm going to go look for him myself. Bo: Dont you think that's what I would like to do, too? But right now, neither one of us can do any good like that. Nora: Well, I can't stand this. This is killing me, just sitting around waiting. I can't stand it. Bo: We dont really have a choice right now because we have to do that in case we hear from Troy or from Matthew. We have to be available here. Nora: He's just a little boy, and he's probably really scared. (Next scene) Troy: You can't leave me here, Matthew. I need you, ok? Hey, I'm your old buddy, Dr. Troy, right? Not the guy everybody says I am, Matthew. I didnt do it. I didnt kill those women. I dont even know why I said I did. I just -- got so confused, I couldn't keep everything straight. I didnt do it. They made me think I did, but I didnt. Matthew: Then who did? Troy: I dont know. It's almost like -- it's almost like when Colin -- no. No, it can't be Colin. Colin's dead. Think, Troy, think. It's got to be somebody who's been watching me, somebody who knows me. Somebody who's been spying on me, knows all about me. That's the only thing that makes any sense. I didnt kill those women, Matthew. You believe me, dont you? Matthew: You're a doctor. Doctors dont hurt people. Troy: No. No, doctors dont hurt people. Wait a minute. Matthew: What? Troy: I know who did it. Matthew: Who? Troy: They'll never believe me. Nobody will ever believe me. Matthew: Well, maybe you should just get some sleep. Troy: I can't go to sleep. You'll run away. Matthew: I can't run away. I'll get lost. I dont know where I am. Troy: Lost -- Matthew: Go to sleep. You'll feel better. (Mathew slowly gets up, grabs his compass and his map and runs out.) (Next scene) Troy: (Waking up) Matthew? (He sees his little Mathew is gone and runs outside of the cabin to look for him)Matthew? Matthew? (Next scene) Stephen: Nora -- any word yet? Nora: No, no. I was just checking my voicemail to see if Matthew called and I missed it. Stephen: When's the last time you spoke to him? Nora: After you left, actually. You were right. Troy did call back. Stephen: Good. Nora: And -- I asked to meet with him, and we set something up, and then he didnt show. So -- you said that he wasn't -- he said he wasn't going to hurt Matthew, right? That it wasn't part of his problem? Stephen: And it's not likely he will. Nora: "Not likely"? It's not likely that he will? I mean, what does that mean, that there's a chance that he will hurt Matthew? Is that what you're saying? Stephen: No, what it means -- Bo: Give it to us straight, doctor. How much danger is Matthew in? Stephen: All I'm saying is the longer this goes on, the more desperate Troy will become. I'm not going to minimize the risks. John: You're saying he could lose it? Stephen: I'm saying it's time to find Matthew, soon. As soon as you can. Nora: Oh, God. (Suddenly, Matthew runs in!) Matthew: Bo! Bo: Hey, bud. Matthew: Mom! (Hugging him) Nora: Oh, God, sweetie. (Next scene) Troy: He's gone. He's gone. I can't believe he's gone! They'll find him. No, Troy, you got to think. Just think, ok? You got to think here. (Next scene) Nora: Oh. Sure you're ok? Matthew: No, he didnt do anything. Nora: Really? Bo: Did he hurt you, son? Matthew: He was scary sometimes, but I'm ok. Nora: You sure? John: Matthew, you ok enough to maybe answer a few questions? It's all right with your dad. You know, because it might help us find Dr. MacIver. Ready? Matthew: Ok. John: Ok, I need for you to think real hard. Do you remember anything that you might have talked about with Dr. MacIver? Matthew: About how he didnt kill all those ladies he said he did. Stephen: He said that? Matthew: He said he knows who did it. John: Did he say who that was? Matthew: He didnt say anybody's name. But he said it was somebody whos trying to make him look like a bad guy. Stephen: Classic paranoia. Rae: He doesn't trust anyone or anything. Matthew: He said he didnt trust you, Mom, but I told him he could because I trusted you. Nora: Well, I'm glad you did. Because we never gave up looking for you, you know that? Bo: How'd you get away from him? Matthew: I ran away when he fell asleep. Bo: And you found him? Ron: Yeah, yeah. I was coming back from a construction site, and I saw him just walking alongside the road with his flashlight, so I picked him up. John: You think maybe you could tell us where that is exactly? Ron: Yeah, sure, I'll show you. Nora: We love you so much. Just were so worried about you, you know that? Bo: Yeah, we love you more than anything, buddy. Nora: More than anything in this whole big, wide world. Antonio: I understand they canceled the alert. That's great news. Bo: Yeah, but it's not over yet. Now we got to catch the bastard. (Next scene) John: What are you asking me for? What, do I look like Rand McNally? The wilderness where the van was found -- it's a big fishing and hunting area. There's a lot of cabins, a lot of shacks. MacIver could be in any one of them, all right? Bo: Antonio -- Antonio: Sir. Bo: I have something for you. Welcome back. Not a minute too soon. Antonio: I'm glad I could be here to help, sir. John: I'm heading out. I'm going to go join the search. Bo: All right, I'm going with you. John: Good deal. Antonio: I'll check out the Main -- Main Street robberies, all right? Bo: Great, yeah. All those shopkeepers are all over me. Antonio: Yeah, dont worry about it. I'll take care of everything. John: You all right? Antonio: Yeah. I get my old desk back? Bo: You bet. Antonio: All right. Matthew: Why dont you let me tell you where Dr. Troy is? Bo: You sure you could do that? Matthew: I got my merit badge in orienteering, didnt I? Believe me, I'm really good with maps. Bo: Yeah, son, you know, I dont -- I'm not sure it's a good idea for you to go back there. Matthew: What if he gets away? I could help you find him real fast. Bo: All right, then, what are we waiting for? Let's get out of here. (Next scene) (They're in the woods and police are closing in on a cabin) Bo: Matthew, are you sure this is the place? Matthew: Yeah, I'm sure. Bo: That's great. Ok. You did a great job bringing us here. Now I'm going to take you back down to the road where your mom's waiting, ok? And then Agent McBain's going to arrest Troy. Matthew: How come you're not doing it? You're the commissioner. Bo: Yeah, no, but right now, I'm your dad. See, I'm going to make sure you're safe, ok? GIve us five minutes. John: You got it. Matthew: Look, just dont hurt Dr. Troy. He's my friend. (Awwww!) (Next scene) (they slam the door open) John: F.B.I.! Freeze! Troy: (Standing up in panic) Dont shoot. I didnt do it. I swear to you, it wasn't me. But I'll tell you who did. THE END
