The Marathon Revisited:  College Roommate/Jeannette
The original "marathon" was run in 490 B.C. after the Greeks defeated the Persians... on the Plains of Marathon.  This was the decisive battle that sent the Persians back home.  The runner, who has come to be known as That Poor Dead Running Guy, ran from Marathon to Athens (26.2 miles) to relay the news.  Be very glad dear Heather, that this is the version that made it to the history books and the Olympics.  The alternate version had TPDRG running from Marathon to Sparta to ask for aid.  That's a distance of 150 miles.  As for TPDRG that dropped dead after the first Marathon run, perhaps he should have eaten more fish.
