Whales
Day 3

Pre-instructional:

TTW review over vocabulary words for Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man.

Procedure 1:

a. TSW will predict what will happen next in Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man
     TTW stop periodically and allow the students to predict what will happen           next.
b. TTW read the rest of the story to the class.
c. TSW answer questions about the story.

Procedure 2:

a. TTW show the students a picture of a whale.
b. TSW tell facts that they have learned.

Procedure 3:

a. TSW discuss why Burt tries to make the whale have an upset tummy.
b. TSW recall the things he did.
c. TSW tell what other things that might have upset the whale�s tummy.
d. TSW make their own whales.
e. TSW trace around their whale template onto pink construction paper.
f. TSW splatter yellow and black paint on the whale by using a toothbrush.
g. TTW provide magazines pictures for the students to cutout pictures of              things they think might upset the whale�s tummy.
h. TSW glue magazine pictures inside the whale�s tummy

Procedure 3:

a. TSW discuss their favorite parts of the story and what they have learned about whales.
b. TTW write the student�s answers on the board.


Day 4
Pre-instructional:
TSW name the four major oceans.
TTW ask the students what they know about whales (KWL Chart)

Procedure 1:
a. TSW will predict what Whales the Gentle Giant by Joyce Milton.
b. TTW read the story to the class.
c. TSW answer questions about the story.

Procedure 2:

a. TTW show the students a chart that shows parts of a whale.
b. TSW tell the similarities between whales and humans.
c. TSW label a diagram of their body and a whales.

Procedure 3:

a. TSW trace their hand using a black marker.
b. TSW will make a silly sea creature out of their hand.
c. TTW display the students work.
