Ocean Floor
Pre-instructional:
TTW ask the students what they know about oceans. (KWL Chart)
TSW sing �Take Me Out to the Ocean.�

�Take Me Out to the Ocean� (Tune �Take Me Out to the Ballgame�)
Take me out to the ocean
Take me out to the sea
There goes a starfish and sand dollar,
I�m having so much fun, I�ve just got to holler
Oh, its swim, swim, swim, underwater
Catch a ride on a whale, don�t fear
For the sea animals are our friends.
Lets give a great big cheer!


Procedure 1:

a. TTW explain the importance of a map.
b. TTW show the students the four major oceans.
c. TSW name the four major oceans.

Procedure 2:

a. TSW tell what they think they might see on the ocean floor.
b. TSW predict what will happen in Magic School Bus Takes a Dive or Magic               School Bus on the Ocean Floor by Joanna Cole.
c. TTW read the story.
d. TTW place a chart on the board for natural and man-made elements that would         be found     
     on the ocean floor.
e. TSW tell what items should be placed under natural and man-made.

Procedure 3: 
a. TTW give each student two paper plates.
b. TSW color the center of one of the plates to look like water.
c. TSW glue sand/salt to the bottom to look like sand.
d. TSW use yarn, tissue, and cutouts to make ocean animals and plants.
e. TTW cutout the center of the other plate to make a porthole.
f. TSW glue clear blue wrap across the hole to from the porthole�s glass.
g. TTW staple the two plates together.
