What's in a Name?
Does your name mean something?  How did you get your name?  Is your name unique?  Heather of course is a plant/shrub with small purple flowers that grows in the British Isles - especially in Scotland.  Muir is a variation of the word "moor" - or the flat, marshy areas (or heaths) in Scotland.  Heather is known to grow on the moors in Scotland - so my name is very Scottish (as is part of my family - although most of my ancestry is Norwegian - but then again the Vikings were known to have visited and populated Scotland.)  I used to think my name was unique, but I keep finding more and more people with my exact name.  Here are some interesting links about Heather, Muir, and yes Heather Muir.

O'er the Muir amang the Heather.
JEAN GLOVER (1758-1800)
The author of "O'er the Muir amang the Heather" was the daughter of a Highland weaver settled in Kilmarnock. She married a strolling actor, and her fugitive songs became familiar throughout the West of Scotland. "O'er the Muir amang the Heather" has become a classic.

Comin' through the craigs o' Kyle,
    Amang the bonnie bloomin' heather,
There I met a bonnie lassie,
    Keepin' a' her ewes thegither.

     O'er the muir amang the heather
     O'er the muir amang the heather,
     There I met a bonnie lassie
     Keepin' a' her ewes thegither.

Says I, My dear, where is thy hame?
     In muir or dale, pray tell me whether?
Says she, I tent the fleecy flocks
     That feed amang the bloomin' heather.

     O'er the muir, etc.

We laid us down upon a bank,
    Sae warm and sunnie was the weather;
She left her flocks at large to rove
    Amang the bonnie bloomin' heather.

     O'er the muir, etc.

While thus we lay, she sang a sang,
    Till echo rang a mile and further
And aye the burden of the sang
    Was, O'er the muir amang the heather.

     O'er the muir, etc.

She charmed my heart, and aye sin syne
    I couldna' think on ony ither;
By sea and sky! she shall be mine,
    The bonnie lass amang the heather.

     O'er the muir amang the heather,
     O'er the muir amang the heather,
     There I met a bonnie lassie
      Keepin' a' her flocks thegither.
Montgomerie's Peggy
ROBERT BURNS

Altho' my bed were in yon muir,
Amang the heather, in my plaidie;
Yet happy, happy would I be,
Had I my dear Montgomerie's Peggy.

When o'er the hill beat surly storms,
And winter nights were dark and rainy;
I'd seek some dell, and in my arms
I'd shelter dear Montgomerie's Peggy.

Were I a baron proud and high,
And horse and servants waiting ready;
Then a' 'twad gie o' joy to me, -
The sharin't with Montgomerie's Peggy.
