"Well, I don't want to," Abby whined.

"Well," Essie growled. "That's too bad. Mom said you're going to and that is just how it's going to be."

"Whatever," the ixi replied softly.

Essie scowled. "One of us has to," she reasoned. "Why not you?"

"I have more...stuff than you," Abby all-but-shouted. "That's why!"

"Stop it!" Mom stated sharply. "Abby you will share your room with Aprilz_Rain." Without another word Mom stepped out the door. "I'll be back soon. Essie, help her clean her room."

Essie's mouth opened in surprise. "But - but..." she said to her mother's retreating back. Suddenly she was quite at a loss for words.

"Who's April's Rain anyway," Abby grumped.

Essie frowned. She had no idea, but she wasn't about to admit that to the ixi. "Mother said you had to clean your room," she said rather than answering.

"She also said that you had to help," Abby pointed out.

The Eyrie's frown turned into a look of shock and she gasped, "I lady does not debase herself with meanial labor."

"There's a lady here?" Abby quipped. "I don't see one."

Essie scowled at her sister. "Fine," she said. "I'll help you clean out that pigsty you call a bedroom, but you have to do something for me."

"What?" Abby asked suspiciously.

Essie pointed at the two snowbunnies in the corner of the room. "Take Ezra for a walk later."

"No way," Abby exclaimed. "He tries to bite me!"

"Then I guess you're on your own," Essie said turning away.

"Fine," Abby grumped. "I'll walk that evil thing you call a pet. Come on," she muttered, turning toward the back bedroom.

Essie shook her head at the mess that greeted them. Abby's school books and papers were strewn all over the room, her clothes were lying in piles in two different corners and her toys were piled all over the bed.

"It is a rather...daunting task," she whispered.

"Yeah, well," Abby said, shrugging. "I just get so busy."

"Once we get it clean," Essie suggested. "Try to keep it that way." Abby gave her a look, but nodded. "Let's start with the clothes. Is any of it clean?"

"That pile," Abby said, pointing to the far corner.

Essie nodded. "You put those away, while I get the dirty clothes and put it in the hamper. Then we'll start in on the books and papers."

"Sounds like a plan," Abby agreed.

Soon, the room was spotless and everything had been moved around to allow room for the new furnature their mother had purchased the day before.

"That wasn't so bad," Abby said, smiling proudly.

Essie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, well, let's just see how long it stays this way," she mumbled.

Abby frowned. "I try," she replied softly.

"I know," Essie said. "You can walk Ezra now." The snowbunny responded to his name, by hopping over and staring up at Abby.

"Okay," Abby grumped. "Come on, Ezra," she said, picking up the snowbunny and attaching the harness.

About the time Abby had finished walking him, Essie saw their mother walking down the block toward them. "I'll take his harness off," she said helpfully.

"Thanks," Abby mumbled. "What's that mom has with her?"

"Hello, girls," Mom said, setting down the small bundle she was carrying. "This is your new sister - Aprilz_Rain."

Essie and Abby moved closer and both smiled. "She's a uni!" Essie exclaimed. "Someone I can go flying with!"

"That's right," Mom said happily.

"Welcome to the family," Abby greeted. "I'm Abby and this is..."

"Elsa," the Eyrie supplied. It's nice to meet you, Rain."

"Hi," the uni said shyly.

"Careful with her," their mother warned. "Her defense is only at 'vulnerable' right now."

"A couple visits to old Coltzan should fix that," Abby said excitedly. "Look what he did for Essie's movement. She used to be slow and now she's super speedy."

"Coltzan?" the uni asked.

"We'll take you tomorrow," Essie assured her. "But now, are you hungry?"

"I could eat," Rain replied.

"Great!" Abby said, bounding off toward the kitchen.

Essie smiled and said, "Come on."

Rain nodded and followed her new sisters into the kitchen for a late breakfast.

The End!
