Another Quiet Day At the LAW Office - Part 5
Heather (May 2, 2003)

Vin's shook his head in disgust. Whatever Ezra had gotten Miss Heather involved in, it had to be stopped. She was far too innocent to be messin' around with any conmen.

Just as the Texan was about to barge into the place and head up to the room where Ezra and Heather were, he heard the southerner yelp in pain.

"Oh! Sorry, Ezra," Heather gasped. "I told you I couldn't do this and now I've hurt you."

"Nonsense," Standish replied. "No no harm done."

Vin frowned and glanced at the LAW gals. Lisa was staring in amazement, Selene and Ann were trying to stifle their laughter and Kim just shrugged and shook her head.

"I think I should quit while I'm ahead," Heather stated firmly. "This is why my sister doesn't let me do her hair. I'm too rough with the brush."

"You're doin' fine," Ezra protested. "Let me show you what you're doing wrong."

Vin shook his head and glared at the LAW gals. "Okay," he whispered. "What are you really up to? An' I don't wanna hear no stories about no softball games."

Selene (May 2, 2003)

Selene heard Vin say softball games and went all glazy eyed. She still had no clue what kind of game it was, but it was sport, which meant sweaty Vin. A dumb grin was forming on her face at this image.  Ann and Lisa who where standing beside her and saw this dutifully slapped her upside the head. Anything for the office right?

Kim in the mean time took charge of the situation. She of the best innocent faces, out of the LAW girls anyway, put on her best one and said:  "Why Vin, I have no idea what you're talking about. We have to leave now, nice seeing you again, and be prepared for the LAW girls revenge for following us," she said with an evil grin.  With this she moved quickly away from Vin, the rest of the girls following her at the same speed.  Vin just shook his head and moved the other way. Chris could try next time.  Those girls where up to something, that was for sure. But though he might have a small change at getting it out of Selene, she who was very nervous in front of him, the others didn't look like they would leave her alone with him any time soon. If Chris glared at them, maybe they'd spill. But then... They where LAW girls, and as such, not able to be intimidated. They needed a group effort. Get the boys together and corner them girls. For now that was their best bet.

Vin took the short cut to the saloon and explained his plan to Buck and Chris who where still there, and to Nathan, Josiah and JD who had arrived after he left. After JD told them what Selene and Kim pulled on him, they really wanted to know what was up. And after Buck was finished lecturing JD that if in a situation like that, you didn't start talking, you sat back and enjoyed the show. Better yet, you joined in! After Buck was trough with that, they decided that Vin's plan was their best bet now. They knew the girls where on the way to the saloon, and when they arrived they would set the plan in action.

Soon they heard the chatter and laughter that announcement the arrival of the four LAW girls.

Selene (Oct. 17, 2003)

"Okay" Chris whispered, leaning over the table a bit, "We need to make sure they have no escape, two of us at the end of the table and make sure Vin is next to Selene, she can't keep a cool head to save her life when he's near her. Vin, work on her, she's our best bet.  Together with Ann, she's got no stealth. I don't believe Selene and Kim where happy when she mentioned the softball idea."

"Fine, but I still don't see why you people won't tell me why Selene is so nervous around me, she's got no problem with the rest of ya. Hell, she's not even afraid of Larabee!"

"Son," Buck boomed. "If we need to explain that to you, I don't believe there is hope for you."

Before Vin could respond the four LAW girls entered the saloon, so deep in conversation that they didn't notice the LAW men sitting there at first. Until Ann looked up and elbowed Kim, in what was meant to be a sneaky way, but was clearly seen by all the men
present.

"Ow," Kim snapped. "Why did you do that for?"

"Smooth, oh great leader," Ann responded in a whisper, "Look who's here," she continued while nodding towards the table where Buck, Josiah, Nathan and Vin where now getting up and moving towards them.

"Oh shite..." was all Kim could manage before the four men where upon them.

"What?" Selene asked, sounding muffled because she was in the process of removing her hooded sweater, which she used as a coat.  When she got the sweater off and pushed her hair back, she came face to, well, chest, with the blue-eyed Texan.

"Ah," she squeaked. "Never mind, I got it. Vin. Uuuh, how've you been?" she asked while repeating a mantra of I will not tell anything about what we've been up to in her head and trying to hide behind Lisa. Lisa had no problems with being close to Vin.

"Vin, how lovely to see you again... Care to join me for a drink?" she asked, while Selene tried to move off to Kim, who was in a staring competition with Chris while trying to pull of a silent retreat with the other LAW girls.

The boys however where having none of this. Nathan offered his arm to Ann, who accepted, not wanting to be rude. Josiah started talking about computer graphics to Kim who, against her better judgment, continued the conversation, oblivious to the fact that Josiah was leading her to the table where Chris and JD where still sitting. JD got up and let Ann and Kim slide onto the bench.

Meanwhile Buck had moved to Lisa, slung his arm over her shoulder and started whispering in her ear. Lisa, lost in the sensation of Buck's breath on her ear and neck and the sound of his voice, only came back to her senses when she found herself sitting next to Ann while JD sat on her other side, neatly preventing escape. Buck, Nathan and Josiah moved to sit next to Chris, who had Kim next to him.  This left Selene all to herself, much to her distress. Great friends I have, she thought to herself, looking at her friends sitting at the table, looking either pissed or dazed.  Give them a good-looking man and they leave me. She looked up when she felt a hand on her shoulder and her mind went blank.

"Shall we join them?" Vin asked while gently pushing her towards the table. Selene, accepting her fate, went with it. Just, please God, don't let me be the one who spills our secrets. Well, at least Ill be sitting next to JD, she thought while sliding onto the bench with Vin next to her. He might prove a amusing distraction.

"Hey JD," she purred in his ear. "How've you been?"

Kim (Nov. 5, 2003)

"Hey," JD squeaked, pushing his back up against the wall in a desperate attempt to flee Selene's obvious evil twin. He knew Selene as the quiet, pure, innocent soul that she was... this wasn't her! Of course... he wasn't around her much, so he might have missed something.

Buck gave a quick shake of his head, trying to make the boy see reason, but JD was beyond it. He looked about ready to jump over the bench and dash out of the Saloon as Selene gently laid her hand over his, staring at him in a silent admiration.

"You know, we really need to be going," Kim stated in her best leader voice. Chris just looked at her with a small smile but didn't budge.

"Going where?" Vin asked, just as curious as the others. Kim probably wasn't going to tell, but it was worth a shot.

"Practice," she said with a smirk. "You boys should come with us if you want to do well for the charity. Those poor little defenseless animals need your help."

"Yep, that's right," Lisa added. "The game isn't that far off, and you boys don't even look in shape for it," she lied calmly. If she started fantasizing now, she'd be worse than Selene with Vin.  Those well-built bodies... sweating, running in tight pants... muscles bulging with the swing of a bat... she quickly wiped her mouth.  Chris sighed and looked at Buck, the idea of the man's t-shirt shanagans growing stronger in his mind.

All the while, Selene still watched JD, keeping her mind occupied and her mouth shut. She wasn't going to be the one to spill the beans! Plus, watching JD squirm was quite fun. She started to softly hum the striptease dance again.

"Look... we all know there's no game. I called the Humane society," Chris finally stated, a small smile forming as each of the girls heads turned to look at him.

"Maybe you talked to the wrong people," Ann stated helpfully, but Chris just gave her a 'come clean' look.

"Ok, look... the real reason..." Kim started, looking to the other girls for help.

"Is that uhm..." Lisa added.

"Well, we've decided that... uhm Selene?" Ann nervously ran her fingers in circles over her palm.

Selene just babbled softly as Vin, and the others, looked at her with expectation.

Great... we're toast, the three girls thought.

Suddenly, Chris' cell phone rang. It was Heather.

Heather (Nov. 19, 2003)

Larabee, Chris growled into the phone, still watching the girls seated with him warily.  His growl was answered by a soft chuckle.

Hello, Chris, Heather replied.  Whats got you so upset?

Guess!

Hmmm the amused girl replied.  The other LAW gals have been running around trying to gather information about what me and Ezra might be planning, telling you stories about an imaginary charity softball game and generally making your life difficult.  Heather chuckled again.  Am I close?

Chris sighed.  What are you and Standish up to? he asked irritably.

Honestly?

Itd be nice, the black-clad man grumbled.  Eying Ann, Selene, Kim and Lisa, he added, For a change.

Well, the girl on the phone began.  Initially we werent up to anything, except that Ezra was keeping me company.  Hes my muse, ya know.

Youremuse? Chris squeaked, earning confused looks from everyone at the table.

Yup, Heather replied evenly.  He helps me write stories.  But thenwell we got to see all of you even the other gals running around trying to find out what we were planning.  It was great fun!

So, Chris said, scowling again.  Youyou arent planning anything.  You just got us going as a joke?

Precisely! Heather said, giggling.  Sometimes the best jokes are the ones people play on themselves.  Chris growled, but before he could say anything, the girl added, Dont expect Ezra in the office for a while.  Weve got a backlog we need to finish, plus hes helping me with my thesis.

Thesis?

Heather giggled.  Well, the vocabulary anyway.  God, I love how he talks.  Bye now!

Chris closed his phone and stared at it bemusedly for a few moments, before turning to the other people at the table.  Weve been played, he admitted softly.

Who knew Heather had it in her? Josiah sighed.

We did, the LAW gals chorused.
