Another Quiet Day At the LAW Office - Part 2
Kim (Feb. 26, 2003)

"Plan? What plan? What are you guys talking about?" Kim slumped down into the vacant seat Selene had made for her at the booth.

"Shhh," she admonished and started to fill the latecomer on the happenings of that day. It didn't take long.

"Ohhhhh," Kim nodded, "I always knew that Heather was up to no good," she whispered and leaned in, motioning the other two gals to do the same.

"We need to think up something quick. You gals know Ezra, his plans are well thought out and executed just as intricately. And add Heather into the mix, and well, I think that speaks for itself. Why don't we...."

"Well hello ladies!" Buck walked over to the booth. "Looks like a secret meeting... can I join in on the fun?"

Kim looked over at Selene and Ann in turn, finally motioning to the LAW man that it was safe to sit. What else could she do? Buck would get suspicious if she said no.

"Sooo, what are we talking about today?"

"Oh nothing important," Ann shrugged, finding new interest in her drink as she twirled the bottle.

"What she said," Selene nodded, making pictures in the condensation of her own frosty beverage.

"Oh a puppy," Ann smiled, looking at her friend's artwork.

"It's a duck," she frowned, finally wiping away the mutant animal drawing with a sigh.

"Hell I thought it was a horse," Buck rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment.

"Looked like a mixture between all three to me," Kim put in, finally standing up. "Hey, who wants to go shopping for supplies?" she smiled, a faint green glow alive in her eyes that signaled trouble. For the boys, of course.

"Me!" both of the girls jumped up from their seat and shrugged into their coats.

"Well sure, I'll come. Ain't got much better things to do." Buck rose also, causing Kim to turn to Ann for a way out.

"Uhhh, are you sure Buck? We mean, female supplies," she watched as the man grimaced and turned towards the door. Ann winked at her two partners in crime.

"On second thought, Vin and Chris should be back soon, I'll wait here for 'em."

"Ok Buck... if you're sure," Kim tried her hardest not to grin.

"Oh, I'm sure darlin', can't leave those two alone, you know! Now go on, have fun," he nodded and watched as the three girls left the establishment.

Selene (Feb. 27, 2003)

Ann, Kim and Selene walked out of the establishment, Selene still grumbling about lack of respect for her artwork.

"So where to?" Selene asked turning to Kim, while Ann did the same.

"Why are you looking at me?" Kim asked

"Because...uuuuhmmm yes, why Selene?" Ann said turning to Selene

"Oooh sure, ask me..." Selene grumbled "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeell, uuuhm...Because you're in the LAW office longer then either of us?"

"Not good enough," Kim said.

"Because I knew something was up before any of you, and because Selene found out for sure," Ann said.

"Oh, good one!" Selene said while giving Ann a high five.

"Thank you."

Both LAW girls folded their arms and turned back to Kim with big smiles on their faces.

"Why don't you two let your inner Maude get working?"

"Sorry," Selene said. "Don't have a inner Maude, I only do when I have to avoid posting fic, or getting it."

"Okay, why don't we get organized, who can be in on Heather and Ezra's plan?" Kim took control of the situation.

"The other LAW men might," Ann pondered.

"What might the other LAW men?" The three girls heard behind them. They turned around and there where Vin and Chris.

Ann (Feb. 27, 2003)

"Um" Ann stammered, "the other LAW menmighterrmahemmight be interested inparticipating in our--um--charity softball game...?"

She tried not to visibly cringe as the last three words practically squeaked out, and she flat out refused to look at her two companions to gauge their reactions. From the sudden chill in the air, she could tell it wasn't good.

"Charity softball game?" Chris Larabee didn't even bother to hide his skepticism as he gave Ann a thorough once-over, quickly assessing--and dismissing--her ball playing ability. Ann had to give him points for not laughing outright.

"What charity?" Vin interjected in an attempt to divert attention from Ann.

"Ohum" Ann desperately looked at the other two women, silently pleading for some help.

"Humane Society," Kim calmly informed him.

Vin smiled. "That's right nicewe'll think on it." He grinned wider as Larabee scowled. Vin added a wink at the three women as he turned and gently pushed his boss ahead of him into the Saloon.

**

"Those girls are definitely up to something." Buck heard Larabee's voice a few seconds before the man himself, accompanied by Vin Tanner, joined him at the table he'd appropriated following his abrupt abandonment by the three women.

Vin shook his head, laughing. "You're too damn suspicious sometimes, cowboy."

Buck took a sip of his beer and shook his head slowly. "I don't know I think I agree with the old dog on this one. Those three wanted me to get gone something fierceand that just ain't natural."

Chris rolled his eyes, wishing he could refute Buck's logic process.  He found that he couldn't so he took a drink instead.

Buck's grin changed to a more contemplative look as he glanced over at Vin. "You don't suppose it's got anything to do with whatever Ezra and that girl Heather are up to, do ya?"

"Ezra and Heather are up to something?" This was the first Chris had heard of this!

Vin ignored him. "Not unless ya suppose Heather and Ez are planning a charity softball game."

Buck coughed, nearly spitting his most recent sip of beer back into the glass. "Charity softball game?!"  Those girls were acting all squirrelly over a charity softball game?! What the--!?

"Yeah" Chris's eyes rolled again. "for the Humane Society."

Vin leaned back in his chair and frowned. "I still say it's a nice ideathere's seven of uswe call up the Simons an' we've got ourselves a team."

Buck's face lit up. "Hey that is a good idea! We could have t-shirts made up!"

Chris groaned. The argument was overand he'd never even had a chance to get in it.

**

"Charity softball game?! Was that the best you could do?"

Ann looked at Kim apologetically. "Truthfully?"

Kim nodded.

"YesI'm not very good at this sort of thing."

"You don't say?" Kim's cool tone and arched eyebrow would've done Ezra proud.

"Ladies" Selene interrupted, trying (not very hard, mind you) to not bust out laughing, "There's no need to fight. After all, the guys left which is what we wanted and no harm done."

Kim relaxed and started to laugh, too. "Yeah, well, except for the fact that Vin seems genuinely interested in playing."

Selene sighed. "Vin's such a sweetheart."

"FOCUS!" the other two shouted at her, hoping to prevent a full-blown swoon.

It worked.

"Right" said Selene, taking a cleansing breath. "Seeing as we now apparently have to plan a <titter> softball game in addition to deducing Ezra and Heather's intentions, we really have to start (as you American's say) 'getting down to business'."

"Indeed" agreed Kim. "And the first order of business is prohibiting Ann from doing any stealth work whatsoever."  Ann merely shrugged in agreement as Kim continued, "I mean, really she's about as devious as JD."

!

"That's it!" shouted Ann. Kim and Selene looked at her quizzically. "JD! If he knows anything, there's no way he'd be able to keep it from us!"

Kim smiled at Selene. "OK, I was wrong, she can be a little devious"

Lisa (Feb. 27, 2003)

Lisa let the bright sun warm her face while running down the sidewalk towards the Saloon.  Looking down at her feet a peculiar saying came into her head.  "Step on a crack and break your mother's back."  I'm strange.  She thought to herself as the three ladies came into view just past Inez's bar.

Ann had called from her cell phone and informed her of Heather and Ezra's clandestine meeting.  It was sure to be trouble, as just a couple of days ago Heather was asking for suggestions of practical jokes.  Lisa raised her eyes to the rooftops to scan for water balloon missiles.

As the LAW girl came closer to her friends she yelled, "WAIT!!!  I'm here.  I'm here!!"
Selene and Ann looked at the breathless runner shaking their heads.  Kim was used to Lisa's odd behavior.

"Hey, Lisa.  Glad you could make it.  We need your help." Kim immediately motioned for the ladies to follow her down the street.

Selene, Ann and Lisa trailed after the LAW lady in charge.  Lisa began to whisper, "Step on a crack and break your mother's back" over and over.

Ann raised an eyebrow and twirled her finger next to her ear while nudging Selene.  Selene quietly nodded.

"So, what's the plan?" asked Lisa.

"SSSSSHHHHH!!" The other three said.

"Not here, just follow Kim," said Selene in her list moderator voice.

"Ok," Lisa sighed.  She'd follow her friends anywhere.  She trusted them explicitly.  Suddenly she thought, Ok, now I know I'm strange.

Kim (Feb. 27, 2003)

The four girls walked down the sidewalk looking like a posse of misfits. Of course, that's what they were. Four women who were set on a quest of world domination... or just figuring out what the heck was being conspired against them.

They turned down the alley and stopped at the door that led into the boarding house. Kim quickly explained Ann's conclusion about JD, but voiced her own worries.

"You guys don't think Ashley would be in on this... do you?"

The three of them stayed quiet for a moment of consideration before Ann shook her head, "No, Ashley would be on our side. We gals gotta stick together."

"Yeah, maybe she can even get a charity softball game going for Vin and the boys," Selene smiled, it was obvious what was on her mind.

"Selene! Mind OUT of the gutter," Lisa ordered in a harsh whisper before quietly contemplating her words.

"Hey don't blame me, you're a member of that Gutter too," she argued, hands on hips.

"Shh! Both of you quiet down... this isn't helping. Look, because of Ann, we now need to get a softball game in order... think we can do it in one day?" Kim questioned, getting blank stares.

"One day? Are you nuts?" All three of them said in unison. Kim rolled her eyes, knowing they'd been saving that line for a rainy day.

"Look, if we can get Ezra, Heather and the boys, because I'm sure that they're into it too, before they get us, we'll have won... right?"

Their faces told her all she needed to know.  "C'mon let's go," she opened up the door and they walked into the Boarding House's tiled kitchen.
