| This story was written in response to a challenge issued in April of 2003 at the Fan_Fiction_list group, which I am a member of. The challenge was: Did you know that the letter "E" is the most used letter in the English language? This months challenge is to write a fic, any fandom, without the letter "E" in it. The fic has to be at least 100 words. And I'm going to make it even harder by giving you two subjects to choose from. The fic has to go about either: 1: April fools day or 2: Easter In order to answer the challenge, I was forced to write in the present tense, first person form. I also had to avoid using a great many words that I normally would have used. It was fun and, well... challenging. |

| Fourth Sunday of April, 2:00 PM
Its Sunday morning a day that most would call holy but for my ward and I its a workday. Jody and my ward busily work to finish a task. I stand by my ward, as I always do, watching and waiting for any hazard to fall. Not that I want any tribulation, but I am vigilant for it. I said last month that I would jump in front of a gun to guard my ward, and I was truthful. I would do anything it took so that no harm would touch anybody whom I guard. My ward is oblivious, as always. Writing an oration for Franklin about this holiday and how amazing it is. Actually, my ward is mostly arguing with Jody about it. I stand without a sound and wait. This job is all about waiting. Waiting for my ward to go out, waiting for any hazards that may fall, waiting to go out at days conclusion. Waiting is good, though. I favor waiting to acting. Acting can only signify that my ward is at risk. A corollary of action is my passing away, or my ward dying, if Im too slow. You okay? my ward asks, in worry. I only nod. My ward grins impishly and motions toward a door. I nod again and go out in front to watch for out any hazards. Thankfully my ward and I attain our goal without any snags. My ward looks my way and grins, as Franklin starts his proclamation. I just nod and look away. Conclusion |
