On Saturday 21st July we took part in the first day of this annual festival. People in the village are asked to make scarecrows to display in their gardens People come to the village to see all the scarecrows.
We have never entered before but Liz had and she knew how to make the scarecrows. So this year we decided we would make a scarecrow and enter the competition. We decided at Guides that we would do a scarecrow shaped like Guide and make a tent and a campfire. We decided to call it 'Guide Camp Out'. We asked the Brownies if they would like to help and they made a Brownie scarecrow which we were happy to add to our scene.
We set our scarecrows up in Liz's garden. We thought they looked really good. Then we went into the village and helped to sell Festival Guides. We also had a look at all the other scarecrows, they were all very good. The judging took place during the the festival.
On Wednesday 31st July, the last day of the festival, we went along to the Queen's Head for the presentation of prizes and awards. Catherine and Liz went along, with Emily, Alice and Charlotte, the three Guides who had been able to help most during the festival. There were 4 categories for the winners. Unfortunately we didn't win any of the prizes but we were still pleased we had entered.
The purpose of the festival is to raise money which is then given to village groups. Once the prize giving was finished, the awards were made to the local groups. All 3 groups, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, received an award, which we were very thankful to the committee for making to us.
The local newspaper photgrapher was there. He took a photo of all the prizewinners and then one of those who received awards. Emily, Alice and Charlotte were all on the photo, along with Liz, who was representing the Rainbows. We had a good evening and we will definately be taking part next year. We will have to think of a very good idea!!
Below is a picture of our scarecrow and also a picture of us at the Awards evening. |
