Not all of these are part of a series. Elizabeth Peters has her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Oriental Institute in Egyptology. She is certainly well qualified to write on the topic. She has taken a wonderful approach in her Amelia Peabody (Emerson) Egyptological Mysteries. We typically read about her adventures with her husband Emerson (Radcliffe Emerson), her son Ramses (Walter Peabody Emerson), and their ward Nefret, in the form of a personal journal. Her Vicki Bliss Mysteries handle various periods and regions in history with a strong damsel who is rarely in "distress," except over various men in her life who seem to think that a woman must find a husband to be happy.
Elizabeth Peters has a fantastic talent for bringing History to life through her Historical Mysteries! She also writes under the pseudonym Barbara Michaels. American Gothics are her specialty under this name. I sincerely hope she is able to write at least 60 more books! That would keep me busy for the next 40+ years of my life. I have all of the books marked in red. :-)

Her books are NOT for squeemish people! They are an examination of the social travesties of Victorian England through the involvement in murder investigations of Inspector Thomas Pitt and his strong-willed wife, Charlotte.
There were a couple from each series that I didn't particularly enjoy. I did enjoy the characters, storyline, interaction, writing style, etc., however. I will list the ones I didn't really enjoy anyhow and color them blue!

The Cater Street Hangman
Callander Square
Paragon Walk
Resurrection Row
Bluegate Fields
Rutland Place
Death In Devil's Acre
Cardington Crescent
Silence In Hanover Close
Bethlehem Road
Highgate Rise
Belgrave Square
Farriers' Lane
The Hyde Park Headsman
Traitors Gate
Pentecost Alley
Ashworth Hall
