Invisible Landscape (1975, 1993)

Terence McKenna & Dennis McKenna

1993 p. 196 – “... Because the winter solstice is precessing, it is moving closer and closer to the point on the ecliptic where it will eclipse the galactic center. This will occur sometime within the next two hundred years. ... the most likely heliacal rising of the galactic center with the solstice sun occurs on December 21, 2012. The eclipse of the galactic center by the solstice sun might be an event unusual enough to signal the onset of concrescence.”

GA: 1. The galactic center is not on the ecliptic.

2. Within the next two hundred years is NOT 12/21/2012!

3. “heliacal rising of the galactic center with the solstice sun” is totally made up, so okay, maybe true in the author’s mind.

4. It is astronomically impossible for the Sun to eclipse the galactic center, so yes, HIGHLY unusual.

1993 Figure 31 on p. 197 – “... Half an hour before the winter solstice of December 21, 2012, the sun will rise ... in a position that will eclipse the galactic center.”

GA: Again: It is astronomically IMPOSSIBLE for the Sun to eclipse the galactic center. Also the Sun rises at different times all over the globe that day, constantly shifting the Sun’s position relative to galactic center for a period of 24 hours and a total of about 1 degree in longitude.

1993 p. 197 – Quoting Hamlet's Mill (1969) p. 244 - “... the constellations that serve as "gates" to the Milky Way must "stand" upon the "earth," meaning that they must rise heliacally either at the equinoxes or at the solstices.”

GA: So the McKennas take “constellations rising” and come up with “galactic center rising” at the solstice. The problem may have started here. Was it Terence or Dennis who started this mess?

The Pleiadian Agenda (1995)

Barbara Hand Clow

p. 5 -  “… extremely close conjunction of the winter solstice Sun with that crossing point (ecliptic with the Milky Way) on December 21, 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar.” – Satya, Keeper of the Library on Alcyone

GA: How an alleged channelled Pleiadian can confuse the galactic equator (1998-2001) alignment with 2012 is understandable, since the equinoxes and solstices are EARTH-based events and have NO relevance from the Pleiades. Just wait though, Barbara gets even better than this.

Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 (1998)

John Major Jenkins

p. xxxiv - Amazingly ... right where the ecliptic crosses over the Milky Way, is exactly where the December solstice Sun will be in 2012.

... the “dark rift" or the Great Cleft of the Milky Way ... and the December solstice sun can enter it only  in A.D. 2012.

 p. 335 - The earliest source ... was Hamlet's Mill.

GA: What is so pathetic about JMJ is that he knows and states elsewhere in his book that these statements are not true. Once again: The ecliptic/Milky Way/solstice alignment was 1998-2001. The dark rift or Great Cleft does not even reach the path of the Sun (ecliptic) and even if it did, it’s a good 10 degrees wide and so the solstice would be "in" it for a good 720 years! Actually Charles Jayne wrote about the alignment astrologically in the 1947 edition of the Encyclopedia of Astrology. There is much, much more 2012/galactic alignment crap in this book, but we just can't bear to wade through it. Sorry.

Catastrophobia (2001)

Barbara Hand Clow

p. 3 – … “On or about winter solstice 2012, our Sun transits across our galactic center.”

p. 18 – “The Galactic Winter Solstice – 2012 – is the turning point of the whole Great Year … the winter solstice at 0 degrees Capricorn points directly to the Galactic center at 27 degrees Sagittarius …

GA: It’s astronomically impossible for the Sun to transit across our galactic center. Th e second statement is one of the most stupid 2012 statements ever! Obvious doesn’t get stellar or galactic astrology, even a little bit.

Alchemy of the Nine Dimensions (2004)

Barbara Hand Clow with Gerry Clow

p. 157 – “Strangely, few Mayan researchers have paid much attention to our solar system’s alignment with the Galactic Center in 1998.”

GA: Maybe because it happens circa 2240. Duh.

Beyond 2012 (2005)

Geoff Stray

p. 30 – Quoting Carlos Barrios with  … alignment with the heart of the galaxy in 2012 …“

GA: Galactic “Heart” (Center) alignment is near 2240.

2012 The Return of Quetzalcoatl (2006)

Daniel Pinchbeck

p. 12 – “... a rare astronomical event: the alignment of the Earth and the Sun with the "dark rift" at the center of the Milky Way on the winter solstice of December 21, 2012 ... “

p. 238 – “On the winter solstice of December 21, 2012, the Sun will rise within the dark rift at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, an event that occurs once every 25,800 years.”

p. 240 – “At the moment of alignment, we cross the Galactic Equator, ... ushering in a new World Age, ...”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is nea 2240. So is it the equator or the center? He obviously doesn’t get it either. Here’s a true fool for believing Jenkins.

2012 Mayan Year of Destiny (2006)

Adrian Gilbert

p. 233 – “22 December 2012 … On this day, the Sun will be aligned with the galactic center on winter solstice.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240.

2013 Oracle (2006)

David Carson & Nina Sammons

p. 165 – “The year zero correlates to December 2012 when the sun aligns with the Galactic center.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240. This is actually year zero in Stardate time in Star Trek! Believe in time travel?

The Mayan Code (2007)

Barbara Hand Clow

p. 3. – “… Earth experienced an alignment to the center of the Milky Way galaxy in 1998 …” (more on p. 93.)

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240.

Apocalypse 2012 (2007)

Lawrence E. Joseph

p. 13 – “... 12/21/12 ... On that date our Solar System will eclipse--interpose itself so as to block the view from Earth--the center of the Milky Way. The dark hole at the center of the galaxy spiral was considered the Milky Way's womb by the ancients and now also by contemporary astronomers ... “

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240 and it’s astronomically IMPOSSIBLE for the Sun to eclipse the center of the galaxy.

p. 32 – “ ... This happens only once every 26,000 years.”

p. 33 - His "interpretation” -  “In other words, whatever energy typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted on 12/21/12, at 11:11 PM Universal Time, for the first time in 26,000 years.”

GA: It’s actually 11:11 AM and here is a confirmed 2012 idiot.

The Mystery of 2012 (2007)

p. 3 - Gregg Braden: “… the rare celestial alignment of our solar system, our sun, and our planet with the center of our galaxy – an event that will not happen again for another 26,000 years.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240.

p.3-4 - Gregg Braden: “… December 21, 2012, when our sun will move into direct alignment with the equator of the Milky Way galaxy. Scientists acknowledge that the galactic alignment will occur …”

GA: Galactic alignment with the galactic equator was 1998-2001! And “Scientists acknowledge?” … Oh, my my! What a bullshit artist!

p. 161-162 - Karl Maret: “… our winter-solstice Sun is aligned exactly with the equator of our galaxy … 36- year period … we are witnessing an alignment with the exact heart center in the plane of our galaxy.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240; alignment with equator 1998-2001.

p. 210 - Jay Weidner: “… the periodic alignment of the galactic center with the sun …”

GA: Now the galaxy is aligning to our Sun? WTF?

p. 282 - Janosh quoting Carlos Barrios: “… the solar meridian crossing the galactic equator and the earth aligning itself with the center of the galaxy.”

GA: The solar meridian is constantly crossing the galactic equator. Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240.

p. 292 - Christine Page M.D.: “For the first time in 26,000 years, our sun and … the Earth are aligned with the dark rift of our galaxy, the Milky Way.”

GA: The dark rift does not even reach the ecliptic (apparent path of the Sun), so the Sun is NEVER IN the dark rift, ever!

p. 303 - Sharron Rose: “On December 21, 2012, the earth will line up with the Sun and the center of the galaxy.”

p. 318 - Sharron Rose: “Every 13,000 years, on the solstice, the center of the galaxy and the Sun rise in alignment with the Earth.”

p. 323 - Sharron Rose: “When the galactic alignment occurs on December 21, 2012 …”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240; alignment with equator 1998-2001.

p. 333 - Geoff Stray: “… the winter solstice Sun rises on the galactic equator …”

GA: Poetic, but still rather stupid.

Serpent of Light: Beyond 2012 (2007)

Drunvalo Melchizedek

p. 9 -  “On December 21, 2012, the axis of the Earth … for the first time in 12,920 years … will also be moving toward the center of the galaxy instead of away from it.”

GA: This guy is making up shit. It’s something he’s really good at. Shifting of the axis in relationship to the galactic center? … Maybe circa 2240, if at all; definitely NOT 2012!

Sag-ing While Aging (2007)

Shirley MacLaine

p. 253 - "In 2012 the plane of our solar system will line up exactly with the plane of our galaxy and the Milky Way. This cycle has taken 26,000 years to complete and ... two other galaxies will line up with ours at the same time. A real cosmic event!"

GA: This galactic alignment peaked 1998-2001. Looks like you’re either way too late or way too early for the party.

2012 & the Galactic Center: The Return of the Great Goddess (2008)

Christine R. Page M.D.

p 2 -  “For the first time in twenty-six thousand years, the Sun is most aligned with what is known as the Great Cleft, the Dark Rift, or the Black Road of the Milky Way.”

GA: Repeat: The dark rift does not even reach the ecliptic (apparent path of the Sun), so the Sun is NEVER IN the dark rift, ever!

2013 Envisioning the World After the Events of 2012 (2008)

Marie D. Jones

p. 32 – “The Galactic Alignment predicted for the winter solstice of December 21, 2012 is the one event most associated with the belief …”

p. 37 - “… culminating in the premier event of the Galactic Alignment in December of 2012.”

GA: Repeat: Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240; alignment with equator 1998-2001.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to 2012 (2008)

Synthia Andrews & Colin Andrews

p. 90 - “… the rising of the solstice sun on December 21, 2012, will be in alignment with the center of the Milky Way galaxy, and will in fact eclipse it.”

p. 97 – The Least You Need To Know: “December 21, 2012 is the date of an eclipse of the galactic center by the solstice sun.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240; alignment with equator 1998-2001 and it’s astronomically IMPOSSIBLE for the Sun to eclipse the center of the galaxy.

Toward 2012 (2009)

Daniel Pinchbeck and Ken Jordon

p. x – “Mayan monuments indicate that they denoted a rare eclipse of the galactic center by the winter solstice sun on December 21, 2012.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is c. 2240 and it’s astronomically IMPOSSIBLE for the Sun to eclipse the center of the galaxy.

2012 Biography of a Time Traveler (2009)

Stephanie South

p. 303 – “December 21, 2012 … this coincides with a galactic alignment in which the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way galaxy, an event that occurs once every 26,000 years.”

GA: Repeat; Galactic Center alignment is in 2240. She’s a close student of Arguelles? Shame, shame on you both.

Fractal Time: The Secret of 2012 (2009)

Gregg Braden

p. 8 – “2012 … we pass an imaginary line that defines the two halves of our disk-shaped galaxy … our crossing of the galaxy’s equator …”

p. 73 – “As we cross the threshold of the Milky Way’s equator in the 2012 time frame …”

p. 117 – “2012 makes tremendous sense …. An even rarer alignment happening just once every 26,000 years.”

GA: Imaginary is right. Are we getting the picture?

Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Awakening (2009)

Introduction by John Major Jenkins

p. xi - "I believe that date was intended (by its creators) to target a rare alignment between Earth, our Sun, and the center of our Milky Way galaxy - a factual astronomical alignment that takes place only once every 26,000 years."

GA: The galactic alignment (with galactic plane) peaked 1998-2001. The Earth and Sun can not align directly with the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. It's astronomically NO WAY! Is what he means by "factual" … uhh … fuck-u-all?

SPECIAL FEATURE: Here's some CLASSIC 2012 stupidity by John Major Jenkins:

"My definition of the galactic alignment is based on the 1/2-degree diameter of the sun and the precise calculation of the solstice point's alignment with the galactic equator (May of 1998) made by Jean Meeus in his 1997 book Mathematical Astronomy Morsels. A clear fact-based definition of the galactic alignment is: the alignment of the December solstice sun with the galactic equator."

GA: John wants us to “believe” that the precise solstice alignment happened in May 1998 ... a solstice in May? And that this is what 2012 is about. What an idiot!

The Book of Destiny; Unlocking the Secrets of the Ancient Mayans and the Prophecy of 2012 (2009)

Carlos Barrios

Some of the material in this book is interesting and helpful, in that it comes from a more indigenous viewpoint. It is not without some major 2012 stupidity though.

p. 116 - "Finally, the famous date of December 21, 2012, is the start of a new cycle called Job Ajaw, or the Fifth Sun. This new era will be ushered in by the solar meridian crossing the galactic equator and the earth aligning with the center of the galaxy. At sunrise on December 21, 2012, for the first time in 26,000 years, the sun will rise to intersect with the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic."

GA:
1. The solar meridian actually crosses the galactic equator constantly all the time. Since they are using terms they don't understand to express the solstice, I'm guessing, then okay, twice a year. Still nothing special in 2012.
2. The Earth never aligns with the center of the galaxy! If it did then it would be a once a year thing. Still nothing special in 2012.
3. The "rising" thing happens every year also.

No unlocking of SECRETS here!

Christ & the Maya Calendar 2012

& the Coming of the Antichrist (2009)

Robert Powell & Kevin Dann

p. 13 - Kevin Dann starts with: "Why then do so many speak of the alignment of the winter solstice with the Galactic Equator as taking place on December 21, 2012, the end of the Maya calendar? ... Instead of speaking of "2012" we should speak of the "2012 Window," in the sense that the precise end date of the Maya calendar, on December 21, 2012 falls within this thirty-six-year period centered on the year 1998. Though we find ourselves initially disappointed that the date we formally believed so precise ... is actually a ... time span. ... That the Maya calendar, could pinpoint this rare, unique, astronomical event with such precision is stunning."

p. 214 - Robert Powell concludes: "The Maya Long Count's culmination at the thirty-six-year "window" marked by the alignment with the Galactic Center offers a promising image ... This book has been written ... so that one can begin to become aware of what is truly amiss."

GA: Good question Dr. Dann. Maybe it’s the work of the Antichrist? Let us clarify. The 36-year window comes from John Major Jenkin’s ripping off and not understanding Raymond Mardyks’ initial use of the solar disk imagery (1998, 2000) to illustrate the galactic alignment. Mardyks was using a visual metaphor to show how the Harmonic Convergence in 1987 and the 2012 end date have a galactic alignment, a term he coined, exactly in between them in 1998-1999. Jenkins made this visual metaphor of the solar disk moving across the galactic plane “literal”, a grave mistake, understood by anyone familiar with Joseph Campbell’s work. Don’t confuse metaphor with reality!

Mr. Powell assures us that his “error” was missed by the editorial process and should have read Galactic Equator instead of Galactic Center. Thank you Mr. Powell for stating so clearly what is amiss: 1. A thirty-six year window and 2. An alignment with Galactic Center.

That’s NOT all, folks. I’m sure there’s more to come!
