February 14th...Not Just for Valentines
RAISING HEART DEFECT AWARENESS

In order to increase public awareness of Congential Heart Defects, an effort has been initiated by families around the world to declare February 14 as a day to Raise Heart Defect Awareness. Due to the great and persistant efforts of Kevin Kienlein of Vernon, here in British Columbia, Canada, the Provincial Proclomation was declared February 2001.

Setting aside a day of remembrance and celebration of the great medical advances which keep our loved ones alive will honour the unseen battle that children and adults with CHD fight daily. The creation of a day of this kind will help to lift the barrier of ignorance, helping both the families and indiviuals who currently are affected by Childhood Onset Heart Disease, and those whose lives may be affected in the future.

By Sharing our experiences and providing information about Congential Heart Defects, we hope to raise awareness about conditions that affect thousands of babies each year in Canada and around the world. It is our sincere hope that efforts to educate the public will result in better support and educational services, scientific research and improved quality of care for our children and adults.

CUPID POOP

This is always a fun thing to do! Maybe for your teacher friends as a gag gift!

(*Put some cinnamon red hot heart shaped candies in a bag*)

I couldn't send you flowers, and candy wouldn't do, Mushy cards just didn't say the things I want them to. So I got you something special, and here's the inside scoop, I found you something very rare - It's genuine Cupid Poop!

LOVE SOUP

(*use a hot cocoa packet, mini marshmallows, and for a stirring stick, use a red candy stick. Put it all in a Valentines Day cello bag with a bag topper on it, and put in a mug*)

Cupid made a little batch
Of love soup just for you.
He blew a kiss and threw it in,
In fact, he blew you two.

He added white and fluffy hugs,
And a little stirring stick,
Add some hot water and sip it slow,
It's sure to do the trick.

Valentines Games:

Hunt the Hearts

Cut assorted hearts from paper and hide them in the room. Let the children hunt for them for a given period of time, then they may count the ones they find.

Heart Hop!

Tape cut out hearts to the floor around the room and have the children hop to each one until they reach the end and then start over. Great exercise!

Valentines Craft:

Valentine Wreath

Need: Paper plate, paint, glue, valentine pictures, hole punch, and yarn

Directions: Instead of the usual Valentine project, try a Valentine Wreath. Cut out the inside of a paper plate. Keep it plain or have them paint it. Have them paste all around the plate with pictures of hearts, cupids, and other Valentine things. Punch a hole in the top of the wreath and pull string through for a hanging device. Have them paste streamers or strings to the back of the wreath. Neat to hang on a door or closet.
