Angela & Albert

Falling in Love

How We Met: It depends on who you ask. However, I was working in the Y2K queue when Dell decided we should go into technical support. Albert was one of the lucky ones chosen to do the training.

First Impression: Dell had the Y2K queue take test to see who knew computers, who could learn about them and who could not. Albert was one of the people conducting the testing. I had a couple of questions. Each time I tried to talk to him, he gave me short, gruff answers and went back to what he was doing before. I hated being blown off. A week later, I arrived on the first day of my normal shift at 10:00 on Tuesday. Apparently, I was supposed to start training at 8:00 that morning, but the trainers failed to notify people at the outside contact numbers that had requested of us. So, I was over two hours late as I threw open the door to the training room and saw that guy who had blown me off. Although I used professional language, I let him have it. The guy stuttered and pushed up his glasses while one of my coworkers called me over to a desk to sit down. The trainer took a little while to compose himself and started his lesson again.

First Date Details: The day we finished training, Albert invited the training class to his roommates 21st birthday party the next Saturday. I went. He was playing bartender that night, so I played wallflower. A couple of guys keep talking to me but I wasnt particularly interested in either. Albert would come check on me every once-in-a-while. After midnight, he came over and we sat and talked. I had to go home to take some medicine and told him I would come back in my pajamas. I did I went back in a pair of pajama pants, a tank top under a sweatshirt and tennis shoes. I found him in the garage with some blond sitting on his lap. His roommate saw me heading for the door and caught him. He convinced me to stay and we ended up going to his room. We lay on his bed talking for hours until I dozed off. He never even took off as much as his boots. The next day, we walked to La Palapa, a Mexican restaurant near the house. I know he ordered Carne Guisada and barely ate anything. I probably had enchiladas. The service was horrible. He tipped her a quarter. I was shocked. He didnt try to kiss me for the first time on the second day. We spent the weekend together and havent been apart since.

How We Spent Time Together: The first six months, we did something interesting every two weeks. The first time, we got our tongues pierced. Two weeks later, he took me to the symphony. For Valentines Day, we spent the day lost in San Antonio and had dinner at the Magic Time Machine. We would go dancing down on Sixth St. several nights a week and spent a lot of time browsing at Barnes and Noble.

Favorite Places: Katzs Deli, my apartment, Sixth Street

Most Romantic Moment: For the sake of parents and posterity, I wont explain the situation, but it involved champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, black lingerie and Shai.

Popping the Question

Heres What Happened: After a long day at work (and school finals!), I came home and we relaxed on the couch watching a movie. At intermission, he disappeared while I glanced at a book. When he came back, he sat on both knees in front of me asking about my book. He told me he had something for me. He asked me to marry him and popped open a box he had hidden behind his back.

Who We Told First: I called my parents as soon as I go over my initial shock. Albert and Susie knew Albert was about to ask me, so he called while I was talking to my parents

Reactions and Celebrations: I think the most common reaction we heard was Its about time! or It took you long enough! My manager sent an email to my entire department, not just my team.
