Slaver Livery (clothing)

Written and researched by maya{DL} and ayana{M}

Greetings beautiful girlies.
Today were going to talk about different types of clothing that slaves are allowed in various places on Gor. ayana will start out and then maya will finish us up. My Mistress bought maya and aya both the clothing for slaves of the Wagon People when we visited Cardonicus. She wanted us to come back and share with our sisters. The reason she bought that was because Mistress grew up on the Plains and it is what she wore long, long ago. When shared with feiqa, it turned into more than just sharing the kajir clothing, but into an entire class about slave clothing. Since then, Mistress bought all the various types well be discussing today, aside from one item which is Mistress from her time on the Plains.

First, we have what is called clad kajir. This is the dress of Wagon People slaves on the Plains. For thralls, it is simple. They wear a kes, which is a short sleeveless work tunic made of black leather.

Its a bit more complicated for female slaves. There are four parts to their kajir dress. You have two red and two black pieces. A red cord called a curla is tied about the girls waist, and the black leather chatka is draped over the top of the cord in the front, passed between the legs and then hung over the cord in the back. Then there is the kalmak which is an open, sleeveless vest made of black leather and on the head is a koora made of red. It is word similar to just tying a ribbon about ones head, up close to the forehead. Its purpose is to keep hair from falling in the face, though to still allow it to be free.

Fur coats and fur~lined boots are also worn on the Plains amongst the Wagon Peoples. They are worn during the winter months when its colder. Not only are they just worn by the slaves, but also the free. They wear long trousers and ear~flap caps as well. Mistress allowed her to bring in her fur coat from her time on the Plains, as well as her boots - which she placed some dried dina in to refresh the smell so you all would not pass out!

Then, there is the camisk. It is made of some kind of rough material, she never found what exactly, though. It is much like a poncho in that it has a hole for the head and slips over to lay against the front and back of the girl. Usually they are short, just barely covering slave bits. Theyre belted with either a chain, or a length of same type of material the camisk itself is made of.

There are two kinds of camisks that she is aware of. The one just described which is most often found in Tharna. And then there is the Turian camisk, which is similar to the ones found in Tharna, with some differences. It binds the girl in three places. Behind the neck, behind the back and in front of the waist. Also instead of it being a length of straight cloth, it is like an inverted T. It slides down between the girls legs and then is belted at the waist.

Slaves of the Tahari wear chalwars and haiks. Chalwars are similar to harem clothing. Trousers that are gathered at the ankles and a red silk vest baring the midriff. Haiks are normally black, cover from head to toe with a small bit of black lace over the eyes so the slave can see. They also wore black, non~heeled slippers with curled toes. (Like elves?? ~Giggles~)

Djellabas are worn only for sleeping. They are made of rep~cloth and come high on the thighs. Couldnt find anywhere that said where these might be worn so if anyone knows please feel free to say so.

Cloaks from what she could find are worn in many different places. And most often it depends on the weather if they are worn or not. They are long and hooded, just like ours here.

As you all know already, bonds wear kirtles made of wool. They are white and sleeveless with a deep V plunge that goes to the navel. They can be long, to the ankles, or short, depending. We wear kirtles (for the most part) only when going outside during the winter months, along with our cloak and boots. If shes not mistaken, when its warmer we are allowed to go outside with nothing on, unless we are working with animals or in the fields, then we must have boots and kirtle. (If thats wrong eira? Let me know.) - Granted all of this is also dependent upon each Owners specifications and wishes. As you all know, she wears her kirtle at all times unless in the springs or such.

The main purpose of slave garments, of course, is not particularly to clothe the girl, for she need not even be clothed, as she is an animal, but to, as I have suggested, "set her off."

THE FROZEN NORTH

"Before he had left, he had them sew northern garments for themselves, under his instruction. From the furs and hides among the spoils at the wall they had cut and sewn for themselves stockings of lart skin, and shirts of hide, and a light and heavy parka, each hooded and rimmed with lart fur. Too, they had made the high fur boots of the northern woman and the brief panties of fur, to which the boots, extending to the crotch, reach. On the hide shirts and parkas he had made them sew a looped design of stitching at the left shoulder, which represented binding fiber. This designated the garments as those of beasts. A similar design appeared on each of the other garments. About their throats now, too, they wore again four looped strings, each differently knotted, by means of which a red hunter might, upon inspection, determine that their owner was Imnak."

SILKS

Pleasure silks are a light, sheer silk worn only by slave girls, wrapped around the body to cling and enhance, with a disrobing loop at the left shoulder. These pleasure silks came in various colors. Most quotes from the books show yellow most often, but red and green, and "varied colors" are also mentioned.
When new slaves come to online Gor, they hear all about the many silk colors, and they hear about white, yellow and red silk. Many of the ones new to Gor do not realize, the difference between online Gor and the Gor written about in the books. i share this with you only because it may explain what you see in other homes here on Jag.

Simply for "online" Gor;
white silk = restricted, slave in training.
yellow silk = tavern slave, owned by tavern or lodge owner.
red silk = pleasure slave, owned by private Master or tavern, training more advanced.

There are a large number of ways in which slave silk is worn. It can be worn, for example, on the shoulder or off the shoulder, with high necklines or plunging necklines, in open or closed garments, tightly or flowing, and in various lengths. Sometimes it is put on the girl only in halters and G-strings, or mere G- strings. Sometimes it is done, too, in strips wound about her body. The tying of slave girdles, with such silk, and otherwise, to emphasize the girl's figure and make clear her bondage, is an art in itself.

SLAVE LIVERY

A slave livery is a much more modest garment, consisting of an over-the-head piece of clothing not unlike a "sheath-dress" or sun dress. These tend to be simple, brief (usually covering the wearer to the middle of the thigh) and are often employed for tower slaves, work slaves, or household and domestic slaves.

SLAVE VEIL

A slave veil is a small triangle of diaphanous yellow silk, worn across the bridge of the nose and covering the lower half of the face; it parodies the heavy veils worn by free women, as it conceals nothing and often arouses the lust of masters.

TA-TEERA

Ta-Teera: Sometimes called the slave rag. A cloth tunic, very brief, fashioned to fit very snugly to a slave girl's form.

TUNIC

A tunic a simple, sleeveless, pullover tunic of brown cloth, slit deeply at the hips with narrow shoulder straps, little more than strings .Some have a disrobing loop at the shoulder.

THE BARRENS

"About her throat, narrow, sturdy and closely fitting, was a steel collar. I stepped back, that I might see her better. She wore a short, fringed, beaded shirtdress. This came up high on her thighs. It was split to her waist, revealing the sweetness and loveliness of her breasts. It was belted upon her with a doubly looped, tightly knotted rawhide string. Such a string is more than sufficient, in its length, and in the strength and toughness, to tie a woman a number of ways. She was barefoot. About her left ankle there was, about two inches high, a beaded cuff, or anklet. Her garb was doubtless intended to suggest the distinctive, humiliating and scandalously brief garment in which red savages are sometimes pleased to place their white slaves."

THRALL TUNIC

Male slaves in Torvaldsland are clad in simple, white tunics of hurt wool.

ayana made a page with all the quotes that she and maya goth the information from. We didn't want to inundate you all with tons of quotes, so we chose to do it like this instead.

Please look over the page and if you have any questions, now is the time to ask. Thanks!
