October 15th We left Hobbs this morning headed for Carlsbad.  As we were getting ready to leave, a guy that was camping there came over and began to talk.  He was really searching for God and we were able to minister to him.
We finally left at about 9:30.  We had 80 miles to go before reaching Carlsbad and our friends, Lonnie and Janet Graves.  We are going to stay with them for awhile before heading on to Tucson.
Between Hobbs and Carlsbad there is nothing!  No towns, no farmhouses, no civilization!
It was about 5:30 and we had ridden 62 miles, when this mini-van made a u-turn in the road, began blaring its horn and pulled over onto the shoulder.  I said, "I wonder what they want....that's Janet!"  We sped up to meet her.  She had come out to meet us.  She said she couldn't wait any longer.
We unloaded the trailers into her van to lighten our load, so that possibly we could make it to Carlsbad by dark.
She left and we rode three more miles, when this truck made a u-turn and pulled over onto the shoulder.  Janet had sent her son Jeremy out to pick us us, because it was beginning to get dark.  He gave us a ride the rest of the way to Carlsbad.
We broke our record that day for longest miles ridden in one day---65miles.  We also have now ridden 2000 miles since leaving Denver CO on July 4th.  We made a 2000 mile u-turn.  The bikes wouldn't turn any sharper!!!
We would love to hear from you!
We spent two weeks in Carlsbad with Lonnie & Janet, and their daughter Becca.  We had a wonderful time of fellowship.  The first weekend that we were here, Janet's friends from Albuquerque came down.  They are wonderful people--Victor & Doreen and their 21 year old daughter, Heather.  While they were there, Heather accepted the Lord and made some major changes in her life.  The Lord is calling her to sing and she committed to do whatever He wants!  Doreen also laid down some junk and rededicated her life to Jesus!
Jim helped Jeremy and Shauna (Janet's son and daughter-in-law) remodel their bedroom.  He rebuilt a window, hung drywall, textured and painted.  He really enjoys doing carpentry work, and enjoys it even more now that he can do it just to help someone out.
We spent quite a bit of time with Pastor Dave and Tonya Rogers and their family encouraging and being encouraged.  Ashley was able to babysit for their three kids.  She really enjoyed that!
The second weekend that we were there, Shauna's mom and dad came in from a town right outside of Snyder Texas.  When we met her she told us that her other daughter works at the library in Snyder and had seen us when we were there, and had told her about this family riding bicycles across the country and how they thought we were crazy.
(Crazy for Jesus!!!)
We weren't able to do too much bike riding while we were there, because it rained almost every day.
When it came time to move on to Tucson, Lonnie and Janet wanted to take us there.  It is very desolate between Carlsbad and Tucson.  There are only about five towns and they are spread way apart.  It is 150 miles from Tucson to El Paso, with nothing in between, but desert and cactus!
On the 30th of October, they rented a u-haul trailer, we loaded our bikes and trailers in it and Lonnie, Janet, Becca and the four of us piled in their van and drove to Tucson.  It took us ten hours to go what would have taken us three weeks!  It really showed me just how much we have slowed down since being on the bikes!

October 31st --December 4th We are  in Tucson AZ!   While here, we have been preparing for the ride into Mexico.  We have gone for alot of prayer rides around the city (to keep in shape) and have been able to talk to many people about our Lord.      We have also visited quite a few church since we have been here and have been able to encourage God's children to be about His work.
Let me share a few of the neat things that have happened here in Tucson.  Jim and I went out on 4th street (the new age area of town by the University) and were walking and praying, waiting for who the Lord would bring into our path.  We had also heard of a ministry down there called the Living Room but didn't know where it was.  We made a three mile circle up through the University and back to 4th street.  We were about to leave when we heard this guy behind us ask a girl what she wrote about God.  We let them pass and saw that they were handing out flyers.  Jim asked what it was about.  They said it was a" poetry slam for the following Saturday at the Living Room!"  We got excited, because we had been looking for this place, and God brings it right to us!  We shared with the four of them for about an hour about stepping out on faith and allowing God to work through them..  They invited us to the University the following Thursday to share at their Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
It was cool sharing with the students at the Inter-Varsity group.  It was awesome seeing so many young people with a desire for Christ.
We went to the poetry slam at  the Living Room.  Christopher and Ashley were able to share some poetry that the Lord had given them.  Jim played a song on the guitar "Do you Love them".  Our friend that we are staying with here in Tucson--Carol August--read a poem that the Lord had given here.  God gave me a poem while sitting there "Ordinary People--Unordinary Lives"  We were able to share with alot of people.
We headed  into Mexico on the 5th of December.  Be sure to follow our journey.  Click
