"Now I'm going to finally destroy you little pests, and conquer your world!" Malomyotismon laughed triumphantly.
"You!..." Davis growled.
"MENTAL ILLUSION!!!" Malomyotismon shouted, a bright light enveloping the six new Digidestined. Within moments, they were all on the ground except Davis.
"What happened?!" Davis asked as he looked at each of his friends. "Kari? Yolei? Ken? Cody? TC?"
"...They'll be all right," a dark voice said behind Malomyotismon. "This weakling has merely stunned them."
"What?!" Malomyotismon yelled. "...No, it COULDN'T be! You CAN'T be here! It's not possible!"
"It's very possible, and I AM here," Katan the Heartless said as he emerged behind Malomyotismon with Kira and a few Barbarians behind him. "Malomyotismon, you're a pitiful little worm. Instead of using your immense powers, you hypnotise your victims and imprison them in fantasy realms. If you were truly powerful, these children would be dead by now."
"Uh... Who're you?" Davis asked.
"Silence!" Katan shouted, sending a black energy ball Davis's way and knocking him down. He silently watched the rest of the spectacle.
"I'm not going to let someone like you stop me from conquering both worlds!" Malomyotismon roared at Katan. "I'll put you under my spell, too! MENTAL ILLUSION!!!"
"HELL COUNTER!!!" Katan shouted, a giant, red field surrounding him and his Barbarians. The flash didn't effect them at all. "You may be strong, Myotismon, but I am stronger. You are merely a flea opposing the falling moon. Now I shall put you out of your misery for good!"
The spore-infected children watched the two evils.
"What are those two talking about?" one kid asked another.
"I'm more confused than before..." another said.
"Hey, we're supposed to stop Myotismon, not you!" Veemon shouted as Davis picked himself up.
"Quiet, brat," Katan said. "If Kamiya and his friends couldn't kill me, what makes you think you have a chance? ETERNAL NIGHT!!!"
He cast a spell that caused a dark cloud to wrap around Davis and Veemon. Within seconds, they were on the ground with the others, trapped in a fantasy world.
"Now then, TEACHER," Katan said to Malomyotismon. "...I believe we should take this outside."
"Fine," Malomyotismon said, creating a doorway into the Digital World. It looked like a scorched wasteland.
On Earth, the six original Digidestined looked at what was happening on Izzy's laptop. "Katan..." Tai growled.
"Not only did he waste our friends, he's turning on Malomyotismon," Matt said. "...Maybe we should wait for him to beat the guy, then we go down and take care of Katan."
"Without Kari and TK, we don't stand a chance," Joe said. "They're as important as any of us."
"This is so depressing..." Sora said.
Tai went over and put his hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, Sora. We'll make sure Katan is sent back to where he came from this time..."
"I'm scared, Tai..." Sora choked. "...He's so evil... and yet... I find him... familiar..."
"How so?..." Matt asked.
"It's because..." Sora started.
"Guys, you'd better come and look at this," Izzy said to everyone. Everyone left Sora's problem on the back burner and came to see what Izzy was talking about. They watched as Katan and Malomyotismon slugged it out in the Digital World's charred ruins.
"CRIMSON MIST!!!" Malomyotismon roared as he spewed red gas everywhere.
"Fool," Katan said. "To have strong attacks, one must focus all their power into the deadliest abilities they have. You of all people should understand that. You taught me that."
"You may have been my pupil at one time, but now you are my opponent," Malomyotismon growled. "SCREAMING DARKNESS!!!"
Katan just absorbed all the black energy like he was a sponge soaking up water. "Using Darkness attacks against me only makes me stronger, you pathetic miscreant," Katan laughed. "MASQUE OF BLACK DAMNATION!!!"
The black skeleton appeared and danced up an evil storm that sent the giant Malomyotismon flying. He hit a wall of the canyon and one of his arms snapped off and became deleted.
"My plans almost worked," Katan said, using his dark powers to grow to Malomyotismon's size. He went over and slugged Malomyotismon in the face. "My Control Spires were keeping things safe for my return... And then you and that old coot Owikawa had to come in and RUIN EVERYTHING!!!" He grabbed Malomyotismon and threw him against the canyon wall, knocking the other arm off. "I was about to return to conquer both worlds and rule as a deity, but YOU RUINED EVERYTHING!!!" Katan's eyes glowed blood red, and red lasers shot out of them and started zapping Malomyotismon, who was screaming in agony.
"Woah... Katan's KILLING him, literally," Matt said, watching the gruesome spectacle.
"This isn't good..." Tai said. "If Katan makes Malomyotismon look like a Rookie Digimon, it means he's much more powerful than when we faced him. Maybe even we couldn't beat him..."
"I could've had it all," Katan continued as his red lasers slowly started to melt Malomyotismon into nothing. "Money... Power... The affections of miss Takenouchi... But YOU... YOU... YOU RUINED IT ALL!!!"
Sora gasped. "...Affections?..." she asked.
"Looks like someone's got a thing for you, Sora," Matt smirked.
"Now you will forefit your life," Katan said. "Burn in hell, you unholy monster!!!"
Malomyotismon let out an unearthly shriek and melted into nothingness. Katan threw back his head and laughed the evillest laugh anyone could ever laugh.
"Katan's gotta be stopped!" Joe said. "...It's now or never!"
"I can't go, guys..." Sora gasped. "...I... I'm scared..."
Tai went over and put his arm over her shoulder. "Don't worry, Sora. I'll protect you, no matter what."
"Thanks, Tai..." Sora said, a red tinge appearing on her cheeks.
"We'll ALL protect you," Mimi added.
Katan had finished laughing. "Now, as for you..." he said, turning back to the lifeless forms of the new Digidestined. "I have no use for you. It's time you joined Malomyotismon." His eyes started to glow red again.
"HEAVEN'S CHARM!!!"
Katan was stopped in his tracks as a dark-haired Angewomon flew down between him and the Digidestined.
"Who's that?!" Tai asked.
"...Could it be?..." Matt said.
"Sure has a lot of guts, whoever she is," Izzy said.
"You..." Katan gasped, stepping backwards. He actually looked afraid. "...I destroyed you! How-"
"You may have began with me," the Angewomon said, "but my power is drawn from a different source now. I'll make sure you never threaten anyone ever again..."
"...Fine," Katan said. "I shall retreat for now, but I promise you... I'll kill you all over again someday..."
Katan vanished in a flash of dark light. The Angewomon flew off into the distance and vanished as the older kids arrived on the scene.
"Kari, are you OK?" Tai asked, helping his sister up.
"TK?" Matt asked, helping his fallen sibling to his feet.
"Ughhhh..." Davis groaned as he sat up. "I just had the weirdest dream! I dreamt that we all beat Malomyotismon and that Owikawa died and all the spored kids became Digidestined, and-"
"Davis, it was a dream," Joe said. "Look around you."
Davis looked around. Owikawa's lifeless body lay off to one side. The spore-infected children were gone; returned to their parents with the spores disabled. All was quiet on the Digital front. All that could be heard was the wind blowing.
"What happened?..." Davis asked. Behind him he could hear Ken, Yolei and Cody getting up.
"...Let's just say you all had a guardian angel looking out for you," Sora said. "Come on. I'm getting cold, and I don't want to hang around here too long."
Everyone started to leave, but Tai was stopped by a faint coughing. He turned to see Owikawa trying to stand up. "Lie still," Tai said to the mortally wounded man.
"Kamiya..." Owikawa gasped. "Listen to me. Myotismon was inside of me, and I learned what he truly feared. Katan the Heartless... Was his pupil. But Katan grew too powerful, and..."
Tai gasped. "Myotismon trained Katan?!"
"Katan wishes to rule the world as the true Messiah... Myotismon wanted to beat him to it, but..." Owikawa coughed up some blood. "You saw what will happen to anyone who opposes Katan, good or bad."
Tai looked back at his friends, who hadn't noticed this yet. Owikawa grabbed Tai's jacket and looked at him with a kind of fever in his eyes. "Please, Kamiya. Defeat Katan and save the world! Katan is now the pure essence of darkness. He must be stopped. Please... Think of it as a dying man's final wish..."
Tai slowly nodded. Owikawa sighed slowly and dropped to the ground. His body broke up into bright butterflies and vanished. Tai stood up and ran off to join the others, now wary of the crisis the world was in. It would be a long battle before things were set right.
