Dewshine's son, Windkin, from the evil clutches of Winnowill. Since
Lord Voll's death, she has taken an iron hand to the gliders and uses
their combined powers to create another palace in order to travel
the stars. She plans on eliminating all the 'tainted' elves including
the wolfriders. Cutter and his band lay

mold the "egg" which will become the new palace. Dart, Strongbow's
son, brings reinforcements from the Sunvillage in the desert.
Together, the tribes make war on Blue Mountain. Leetah and Rayek
try to heal Winnowill, a process which brings ruin to the "egg"
and Blue Mountain as well.The Secret of Two-Edge comes out
as his past is brought forth in the healing. Winnowill had created
her son, Two-Edge, with a troll, and later killed the father. Two-Edge
himself was driven insane with torturous mind-games Winnowill played.
Two-Edge rescues Windkin only to be stabbed by Clearbrook as the mountain
crumbles. Kureel, one of the Choosen Eight, seriously injures Dart
and is subsequently killed by Strongbow, the first time in history
an elf as ever killed another elf. Leetah heals Dart back to health
as Tyldak, a glider transformed in an elf-bird, carries Winnowill
away to a remote island, out of harm's way.

She is the tanner of the wolfriders.
with their magical powers. Strongbow is upset at killing Kureel.
Traveling back to the palace, Rayek destroys the Go-Backs village
for letting his mentor, Ekuar, be captured by the trolls. The Go-backs
chief, Khavi, and her newborn daughter, Venka, fathered by Rayek,
himself are buried in the rubble. Rayek is unaware of Venka's
existence. Suntop hears
A Cry from Beyond and Rayek makes the
real palace fly. They pickup the Wolfriders and some Sunfolk
before setting off the answer the cry Suntop heard.

understands it must originate from the original elves, called
"High-Ones". They had journeyed in the palace to the World of
Two-Moons only to be defeated by their pet trolls and the ancient
humans. The cry they all hear in the cry from those first-time
elves when they are stranded in space and time. Realizing that
time in circular, like a wheel, Rayek is determined to use the
palace to travel forward in time to prevent the accident which
stranded the "High-Ones". Understanding that is so doing, the
existing elves would be eliminated, Cutter refuses to let it
happen. Rayek becomes "King of the Broken Wheel"
whe he takes the palace anyway, with Leetah, Skywise, Suntop and
Ember on board. The wolfriders can only look on in horror.
After many years of waiting, Cutter and his tribe decide to allow
Preservers to cocoon them in wrapstuff, effectively stopping all time
and aging until they meet up with the palace forward in time.
They eventually meet up with the palace, some 10,000 years later,
where, seeing the faces of those who would not be, Rayek cannot
bring himself to change history.

history of the "High-ones" - how they came to be here, what the original
elves were like, and how the existing elves developed. Shape-changing
Timmian, became the first wolf, in order to bring food to the others.
In wolf form, she breed with other wolves, passing the lineage down,
past ten generations of wolfriders. The origin of the preservers,
and trolls as well as the hatred humans have toward elves are explored.
Rayek, realizing Cutter's anger towards him for taking away his family
for 10,000 years, offers Cutter the
Rougue's Challenge.
Rayek and Cutter battle each other in the caverns of the trolls where
they both learn to respect each other. Old rivalries die hard.
