Jaguar, Managua Cichlid

Cichlasoma Managuense, Parapientia Managuense

This is a VERY aggressive cichlid, from the area of E. Honduras, Lake Managua, Lake Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. They usually don't get along well with other members of the same species. I have had a few of these, and they are very cool if you have the tank space for them. The temperature of a jaguar tank should be from 73-77F (23-25C), and the pH from 7.0-8.7. The landscape of their tank should consist of driftwood and rockwork, as they appreciate many hiding places. Once again make sure that the tank is big enough to accomodate this fish when it reaches it's full grown adult length of 11 inches. Plants are not reccommended, as they will soon be more than likely dead with these fish. A tank of 80+ gallons is reccommended for this fish. To sex these fish, the male will be larger, and will have more pointed dorsal, and anal fins. This fish is an open spawner, capable of having batches of up to 5000 eggs.
