Green Texas Cichlid, Blue Texas Cichlid, Pearlscale Cichlid
Cichlasoma Carpinte, Heros Carpintis
This is a fish that is often mistaken for the Texas Cichlid (Cichlasoma Cyanoguttatum). This type of fish has been called the one of the most adaptable cichlids in the whole hobby. They are not overly aggressive but should still be kept with fish of similar size and temperment. The males of this species develop a pronounced nuchal hump. During breeding the males get shiny silver-blue markings, and the females lighten in the ventral region. The average adult length of this fish is 12 inches which commands a large tank of 50+ gallons. Rocks and roots provide good hiding places for these fish, but as usual make sure that all of the rocks are securely in place. They are constantly digging and would not be considered plant friendly. The tank temperature should be from 72-80F, and pH from 7.0-8.0. This fish is an open spawner, and is from Mexico.
