"Fitting Image"  Soap Opera Digest 8/1/95

The feature pic you can find in Grayson's gallery on www.soaphunks.net or www.celebratingthesoaps.com gallery (hopefully it will reopen soon), the one with him in shiny blue trunks in the ocean.

When it comes to staying in shape, Grayson McCouch doesn't monkey around. "I eat a lot of bananas and run in the woods, " quips McCouch.  "It's called, "The Jungle Workout, " by Grayson.  I started doing it when I was in college becuase I hated to run outdoors and it worked."

Living in NewYork, McCouch isn't able to commune with nature very much.  Instead, he has to settle for the concrete jungle. "I hop on my bicycle and do a couple of loops around Central park, and I try to hit the gym everyday, shares McCouch, who is a staunch member of Equinox Fitness.  "It's really an excellent facility and I enjoy working out there.  EAch day, I do a different routine. So I will go in with a specific area in mind, like my chest, and use all the machines that focus on that area."

Don't expect to see the actor peddling on a Lifecycle or sweating off calories by taking a step classes. "I'm not really a class type and I find working out on Lifecycles mundane, " he confesses. "If I want aerobic exercise, I leave NY and go hiking or skiing somewhere upstate. But everyonehas their own exercise program. As long as it works for them, that's all that is important."

Getting plenty of sleep and maintaining a healthy diet works wonders for the buffed actor's regimen. "Staying in good physical health is all bout balance, " he points out. "The combination of these things with exercise will give you the best results."

If you want to get into shape without losing your mind, consider Grayson's stress-free tips on how you can have a great workout:

"Never think of working out as a competition. Don't compare yourself to others cuz you can't be them.  Set realistic goals for yourself and remember that the real competition lies within ourselves."

"While I'm not into chocolate, I have a real liking for ice cream, and sometimes, I just have to have it. Every now and then, it's good to treat yourself, but don't make indulging your sweet tooth a habit. Try having a piece of fruit or frozen yogurt instead."

"Always challenge yourself by trying new workouts. Push yourself and never underestimate the horsepower of the human body."
