| SUPERHUMAN By: Tiffany Part One {An alternate version of Promicide focusing on a Dawson/Andie/Pacey triangle} He stood in the corner of the room trying not watch her but for some reason every move that she made, every word that she spoke he was acutely aware. Leaning against the wall in his tuxedo he sipped on a cup of punch. He wished he could say that he didnt know why he came. He wished he could pretend that he had some other reason for being here. Maybe the great music, the lovely guests perhaps, or the assorted victuals, but in truth it was because of her. He didnt even know why he would do this to himself again. He had been in this moment once before. He was at a dance with the wrong woman while the right one danced across the room with the wrong man. At least in his opinion Dawson was the wrong man. But then again a year ago she had been on his arm and he had believed that she was the wrong one. It was odd how things could change. Or maybe he was just a man with fickle affections. Or perhaps this was a lesson from the fates above that he should have seen that she was whom he was meant to be with all along and now that he realized it he was too late. He sighed staring down into his now empty cup. No point in going lonely and thirsty. Walking over to the punch bowl he poured himself another cup. Hey! She greeted him enthusiastically. He looked over at her with a smile. She was a little out of breath and her blond hair was somewhat out of place from dancing but she was still beautiful. She would always be beautiful. Hey Giving the dance floor a break or did you just break your date? He asked jokingly handing her a cup of punch. She gave him a good-natured smirk. Very funny. Dawson went to the bathroom. And just so you know some people actually come to prom to dance. I know that may seem like a foreign concept to you but we dont all live in the bible thumper world of Pacey Witter Besides I had to drag Dawson here as it was so Im going to get as much dancing out of him as possible. She remarked. He furrowed his brow as he took a sip of his own drink. Why would you have to drag Dawson to prom? He asked. She shrugged. Hes come to think that the dances here in Capeside are cursed for him. Every time there is one something bad happens and for some reason he either doesnt get the girl or he has her and then loses her. Like his freshman year, he wanted to go with Jen but she ended up going with some football jock. Then his sophomore year him and Joey broke up and then last year well we all know the story about that one. She finished hurriedly. He nodded seeing her point. That doesnt mean hes cursed. Although I can see where he might get that idea. She shook her head. Oh please not you too. I tried to tell him that there is no curse. So he had a few bad experiences but this time it wont be that way. Hes got the girl and Im not going anywhere. There is no ex running around still in love with me and he has solved all his relationship issues with Joey. I told him that tonight everything is going to be fine and great. Nothing life altering or relationship damaging is going to happen. Irony how he had come to hate irony. He nodded not wanting to speak. His heart was in his throat and he didnt know what to say. It wasnt exactly an easy thing to come out and tell her that there was an ex running around still in love with her. Instead he sighed. Yeah well, people like us should just face the fact that were not meant to be at dances. Especially for us who hate to dance. She smiled. You know technically you still owe me a dance Pacey from last year. And I think that Im in the mood to collect. Besides I think that Dawson went outside to get some air. He might be a little wiped out after our last one. So what do you say? Will you dance with me? She asked with bright eyes. He stared at her knowing that he should just say no and walk away. She had no idea what kind of can of worms she was opening in this one moment. She had no clue of the volcano she was tampering with. Dont you think that youre tempting fate? He asked trying to hide his seriousness with his witty tone. She rolled her eyes. Perhaps But I honestly dont believe that anything will come of one dance Pacey. Now are you going to pay up or what? Come on its your speed too. She remarked noting that a slow song had just been uploaded. He sighed. He should be the cautious man here and walk away. He knew that there was nothing more disastrous then accepting this dance. He knew it and yet Id never back down from a promise. He stated taking her cup and placing it on the table before letting her lead the way to the dance floor. Id have to be strong Stronger then a mountain baby To not crumble at the touch Of your hand {Of your hand} Turning to him he reached down and took her hand. Looking down he intertwined their fingers before looking into her eyes and pulling her closer to him. His other arm encircled her waist while hers came to rest on his shoulder. He saw her smile not having the slightest clue what he was feeling inside. Id have to stop time To stop this love inside me baby To not reach each night for you To not need you like I do She gave a small laugh. See? This isnt as heart-wrenching as you thought it would be is it? She asked knowingly. Looking into her face he felt his heart skip a beat and swallowed hard. No no its not. He whispered. His fingers pressed into her back gently feeling her skin beneath his hand sent a rush through him that he hadnt felt in a long time. Id have to be superhuman Made out of stone Made out of steel Girl to not feel what Im feeling To not love you babe Love you baby To not love you |
