The 69 Eyes were always the most dangerous, provocative and proud to be the loudestband around with a strong cult following. But the self-distruction and distortionhas finaly turned into the sound of dark city rain. Tallest and darkest fivesome; black has always suited them bestand as the shadowsaround them have grown up, their music and message has reached deeper, even blessing level. The band's biggest musical influences are stil Iggy & the Stooges, Motorhead and The Doors. You could call the sound of The 69 Eyes these days as an urban dark city rock 'n' roll decay 2000 with romantic version of death or just more simply Goth 'N' Roll!
Their first album on Roadrunner Records "Wasting The Dawn" was released in 1999. This critically successful and epic dark rock album with great songsand raw playing included also the single hit "Wasting The Dawn", and was greeted widely in the gothic scene because of it's unique mixture of gothic melancholy and high energy rock: Goth 'n' Roll was born! the video of this single was alsopublished as thge first finnish dvd reease.
In the spring of 2000 the band released a single "gothic Girl" which changed everything, months on the single top 10 and on finnish national radio's playlists "Gothic Girl" brought the first gold record to the band. Like this first gold-gone taster single and highly anticipated new album "Blessed Be" was produced by Johnny Lee Michels, who as the sixth member of the band done all the arrangements and handles all keyboards and programming on this record as well. As Johnny Lee Michels has aso been know as a film music composer, the present blesssed sondscape of the 69 eyes is somewhere between epic and melangothic yet withvibes of movies "Sleepy Hollow" meets "Matrix" -without forgetting the shadows of "The Crow"....
Right after the Blessed Be sessions in august 2000, The 69 Eyes did their first short Wasting The Dawn-based German tour which also included a show at the huge Mera Luna Gothic Festival. As the surrport band on this tour was the fast rising Norwegian electro-goths Zeromancer. The tour closed the first chapter and opened the new one....
"Blessed Be" was released on the same date in september 2000 as the 69 eyes got their gold record from their first single ofit. The album rose straight to number 4 in the finnish album chartsand stayed over a monthin the top 10 (3 months in top 40). the second single from the album was "Brandon Lee" which also became a huge power-play radio hit and the single stayed 14 weeks in top 20. In the "Gothic Girl" video the crow meets matrix like vision featured black goth-hop dances in the rubber nun dresses but "Brandon Lee" with a mid-nightly dark teenage romeo and juliet dream was the video that became the one of most requested videos for months in the music channel german viva2.
