VJ Heart is in the MYX

By Pear Clemente

Seventeen-year old Heart Evangelista has added more coolness to the term "Vj". She is one of the newest video jocks to hit the boobtube and also one of the reasons why MYX landed in the daily watchlist of today's generation. With her four-month stint, she has intensified vibrance and youthfulness in the Studio 23 Music Channel. Her pportion, My Myx, which gives way to letter senders' requests, runs weekdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Sounds like a cool profession but the tag did not just land on her lap. She takes a short brake from her hectic schedule to speak about the audition...the perks of the trade and its occupational hazards...plus one pointers for thise who want to become a vj.

Together with other hopefuls, Heart attended the vj audition. She was interviewed and was asked to memorize some spiels. She gladly obliged and introduced the video in her patented carefree way. After a week, she received a call from the staff telling her she got the part.

"I always wanted to be a vj because I like music especially alternative and pop. There is actually no role playing needed. You just go out there, be yourself and speak your mind out."

The first taping day was not an easy walk in the park. It took her quite some time to familiarize herself with the scripts and the staff. Now that she is more comfortable, she has bonded well in the Myx people.

"It's fun to do the tapings with them. When they're around, I don't feel na it's work. Sometimes we need to stop the taping because everybody is laughing and we can't continue."

Besides gaining more friends, Heart cites a number of freebies attached to being a vj. She gets to crash exclusive parties with celebrities including Jennifer Paige. Her exposure in Studio 23 help her widen her reach among the televiewers. She was tapped another bracket of society who used to find her "maarte" while her followers who were diheartened when G-mik was cancelled, are happier with myx.

"Some would e-mail me that they were mistaken when they taught I was maarte in a bad way. For me kasi, what you see is what you get. I don't pretend to be someone I'm not. I think thats the ting that they liked in me. My old friends who watched G-mik naman used to see me every saturday lang. Now they see me everyday na."

As a vj, she reads plenty of mails. Besides the request, these letters mostly dedicated their songs to Heart and perennial screen partner John Prats.

"Touch nga ako kasi they really exert an effort. Like I received a letter in hand-made denim bag. Some would send me pictures or drawing of me and John in HEart-shaped letters with feathers. They request songs and dedicated them to us. Sana daw magkasama ulit kami ni Johnsa isang show.*
