SureBeam to shutter L.A. irradiation plant -- September 08, 2003

SureBeam Corp., one of the top irradiation processors of ground beef, will close a processing plant in Los Angeles after overestimating demand in the company's home state, the company said Monday. The plant was the first facility closed since SureBeam (Nasdaq: SUREE) announced reorganization plans in June. SureBeam has processing plants in Glendale Heights, Ill.; Sioux City, Iowa; and College Station, Texas.

SureBeam may be target of lawsuit --

Milberg Weiss lawyer Bill Lerach announced on Wednesday his intention to file a class action lawsuit against San Diego-based SureBeam Corp. (Nasdaq: SURE). A statement announcing the suit, which also sought a lead plaintiff, said it was on behalf of purchasers of SureBeam stock between March 16, 2001 and Aug. 20, 2003. SureBeam has dismissed its accountant firm twice in three months and has yet to file second-quarter results.
