Here are some ways to help Free Modern Day Slaves

- Join our petition on our website that urges corporations and consumers to band together in an effort to eliminate slave labor from their product chains.

- Ask your local school or your children's teachers to consider teaching a lesson on modern slavery. On our web site is a free, downloadable education packet that teachers can adapt to their classroom and use.

- Order a copy of the documentary "Slavery: A Global Investigation" and have some friends over to watch it.

- Join our email list (you only receive one email per month, and we don't share your information with anyone), where you'll find out when there are strategic email campaigns you can join

- Try to buy fair trade cocoa, coffee, and tea and rugmark rugs. Check out www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade , www.transfairusa.org , www.rugmark.org .

- Read Disposable People, and then give it to a friend to read. If you are a member of a book club, suggest that the group read Disposable People and discuss it.

- Give the National Geographic article to the leaders of your church, synagogue, mosque or temple and ask if they would consider talking about modern slavery during the religious service. The article can be found at the following link: http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0309/feature1/index.html If your congregation is interested in distributing information about modern slavery, I'd be happy to mail you some brochures, etc.

- Join the February 27 Slavery Awareness day. February 27 is a day that student and community groups around the US hold anti-slavery workshops and rallies, sign petitions, and in general, do what they can to raise awareness about the 27 million slaves in the world today. We have specific organizing materials surrounding February 27 and you may view them at http://activism.freetheslaves.net .

- Also, in September 2004 we are going to begin disseminating materials to community members across the country who want to be on the look-out for trafficking victims within their own local communities. If this is of interest to you, just let us know, and we'll make sure you receive the materials.

This list is just the beginning; there is a host of other ways you can help.
