Amaranth Academy of Magic
A Harry Potter RPG
School History
The 16th century was an era of great exploration and discovery for witches and wizards, particularly in North America. French, English and Spanish alike explored and settled these vast lands, creating and establishing the basis of what would eventually become great civilizations.
However, amidst the hope and wonder of this era, darkness and death reigned as well. Times were hard and settlers found it a challenge simply to provide food for their families. Out of this stress and worry, gangs were formed, one of the most infamous of the time being the Purebloods. It was the Purebloods belief that muggles were inferior to wizards. It was also their belief that muggles and wizards should be completely separated and never mingle. Therefore, their greatest enemies of the time were half bloods (whom they believed were an abomination), and muggle born witches and wizards.
The Purebloods started out simply as small groups of witches and wizards who ridiculed muggle-borns by calling them names and occasionally casting embarrassing spells. However, as times became harder and poverty became more widespread, the popularity of the group grew until they became a deadly organization that spread across all of North America.
Soon half bloods and muggles houses were being ransacked and burned, and muggles were chased down and tortured before they were left to die. The Purebloods showed no mercy.
However, it wasnt long before the muggle borns and half bloods began fighting back. Pureblood witches and wizards who sympathised for the muggle borns offered them food, shelter and protection, and other muggles were sent to safe havens across the continent where they couldnt be found by the Purebloods.
One of these shelters was known simply as Amaranth, and was located in Northern Alberta, amongst the mountains and lakes. Over 200 muggles were sheltered here from 1792 until 1796, when the reign of terror ended. Their only source of food at the time was from a small muggle village a little ways away from the enchanted castle. Survival was hard; however, no one died and all were returned to their homes in 1796.
After the uprising ended, Amaranth was abandoned, until the late 1800s when it was named a heritage site, and a graveyard and memorial were built to commemorate the struggle that all muggle borns had endured at that time. The castle was restored, and in 1867 it was turned into a school.
Amaranth Academy of Magic is now not only one of the largest Schools of Magic in Canada, but one of the most diverse. Over half of the school's population consists of muggles and half-bloods, and the school is home to a number of students from different ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and religions.
