Amaranth Academy, like most wizarding schools, is located in the middle of nowhere to keep away from prying muggle eyes. No exact location of the school can be given; just that it is in Northern Alberta, hidden somewhere amongst the Rocky Mountains. The only way to access the school is by wizard train, or plane. Older students may be able to arrive by apparation, but even at that they will appear several kilometers from the school, as there is a charm placed on the Academy that permits anyone to apparate inside it's grounds.
The school itself is a breathtaking sight. It is built on a hill and is therefore elevated, making it appear even more massive than it already is. The southern side of the school faces a gigantic glacial lake which is too cold to swim in even on the warmest days, but stunning nontheless. To the north of the school, a massive boreal forest looms. This forest extremely treachcerous-home to werewolves, bears and other dangerous creatures. It is therefore off limits to all students and teachers. The school is surrounded on all sides by jagged mountain peaks.
The Quidditch pitch is located behind the school. To the far west is the cemetary, which is haunted by many dangerous ghosts and ghouls. This area is also off limits. A memorial is placed near the entrance doors, which is located on it's eastern side, facing the mountains.
Amaranth has an enchantment placed on it that never allows the temperature on school grounds to drop below -10 degrees celsius (-27.78 f approx.), even in the winter. However, outside school grounds, the weather can get bitterly cold, and students are advised to bring warm clothing for the winter.
The nearest wizarding village, Cailean, is located southeast of the school. By normal muggle train, the trip would take almost 5 hours, but by wizarding train it takes nearly 40 minutes. Students are allowed to visit Cailean on weekends and holidays, but only with a teacher's permission. Class trips to the village usually occur once every few months.
