Appearance:

Maire is a true daughter of Ireland; she has long red hair (usually worn down), bright green eyes, and the classic long nose and pale skin of women from the Emerald Isle. She is taller than most others her agea fact about which she is very self-consciousand very lean from years of dancing. If pressed to describe herself, she would say hopelessly plain, completely unaware of the fact that she is growing into quite the beauty. Unsurprisingly, Maire dresses as unobtrusively as possible. Despite being a member of The Robeless, she will often wear clothing the same color as the school robes to blend in (even though it clashes with her hair).

Personality Quirks:

All Maire really wants is to exist simply. She is usually quiet, unobtrustive, and would rather be reading a book than going out and having adventures. But she still has a strong joyful streak in her, and finds great pleasure in dancing, laughing, eating, and talking once you get her chatting, she can ramble on forever.
Loyalty is one of Maires watchwords. She will be a faithful friend until the very end and, given her precarious family situation, believes that friendship is the most precious possession in the world. As such, she tends to be very diplomatic, always trying to effect compromise and assuage tempers (although when provoked, her Irish blood makes itself quite known). She has a tremendous amount of pride in her home country and her heritage (although she hates mentioning it, she is from one of the purest families in Irelandand one of the biggest advocates of Muggle-Wizard equality), but always forces herself to keep an open mind about Americans.
With the founding of the Robeless, Maire found herself thrown into a situation that makes her deeply uncomfortable. She is often the reluctant tag-along to Lucille and Lissys plans, playing along just enough to fit in something she is mortified to discover that she wants very badly to do. Resultantly, Maire often feels confused, and nostalgic for simpler times she is caught between the adults world and her childhood.

Family Life:

Maires family life is less than ideal. Her mother died when she was nine, and her father was left with a failing farm and an only child he barely knew how to care for. He tried his best, but Maire quickly learned that she would have to care for herself. Instead of growing bold and fiercely independent as other children would have, however, she became quiet and withdrawn, keeping mostly to herself. She spent summers working the farm and, in whatever time she could spare, dancing jigs and reels in the village pub for spare change, saving every scrap of money she came upon. She didnt (and still doesnt, quite) know what she was saving for; she just knew she had to.
In recent times, Maires dealings with her father have become more difficult. He forbade her to return to America for her fifth year (and, to her horror, had the village healer tutor her), an act for which she has never quite forgiven him. She argued and begged her way back to Pennsylvania State for sixth year, but she suspects she will have a difficult time convincing her increasingly alcoholic father of the benefits of her continuing education here.

Fears:

More than anything, Maire fears finding herself without friends and without a family. Failure of all sorts is also a constant dread in her mind.

Hopes:

To excel. To find a family at Penn. State. And to show her father exactly what she is capable of.

Interests:

Irish dance, Irish music, Irish literature, Ireland. Also simple things, like sunlight on the floor or a really good meal (preferably followed with a really good book).

Talents:

Maires greatest talent (and greatest love) is Irish dancing. Anytime she is alone, she is either dancing a little, trying to figure out that hideously complex double-scissor jump, or daydreaming about dancing. She is quite bright when it comes to magic, but shell more often than not understand the theory behind a spell before its actual practice. Maire is also very perceptive, and usually quick to read the underlying currents of a situation though she will almost always tell herself shes just imagining things.

Her Dorm Room:

Tidy and very simple.

Other:

Maire is both extremely graceful and a complete klutz, and appreciates both with good humor.
