.                   APPLIED MATHEMATICS - II


Unit I : Determinants - Expansion of second and third order determinants, properties, solution of simultaneous linear equations in two and three unknowns. Consistency condition. Complex numbers - Definitions, operations, properties, Cartesian & polar forms, De Moivre's theoran and its applications.

Unit II : Matrices - Definitions and opeations, Transpose, adjoint and inverse of a matrix, solution of simultaneous linear equations in two and three unknowns.

Unit III : Application of the derivative :
  Geometrical interpretation of the derivative Tangents and normals, Angle between two curves, subtangent and subnormal, Rectillinear motion, approximation, Maxima and minima, Radius of curvature.

Unit IV : Indefinite Integrals :
  Standard formulae, Integration by substitution, Integration of algebraic functions, Integration by the method of partial fractions.

Unit V :
Integration by parts, Trigonometric substitutions.
  Definite Integral : Definition, Definite Integrals as the limit of sum, properties of definite integrals.

Unit VI :
Applications of integrations : Area volume, Approximate integration,s Trapezoidal rules, simpson's rule.
