| The 'BWS Kelmscott' Hooters minus starting SF Darren 'Fresh' Henderson last night tackled the leagues newest team, Viagra Falls for the first time! The Hooters started with a bang, racing to a 35-18 half time lead on the back of a blistering 17 point half from PG Ross Williams, his tally included 5 triples and a deuce off a steal at midcourt that he raced in to lay in ahead of the closing defense. Thunder wasn't alone in his first half onslaught as SG extroaranairre Craig 'Hawkeye' N3lson dropped in 14 of his own and 'The' Chadd Tonkin nailed 4 points in a supporting role. Dissapointingly the Hooters allowed Viagra Falls to score 18 of their own in resonse but that was a byproduct of their fast pace, high octane offense. The second half saw a more committed defensive effort from The Hooters, as Captain Aaron Winder put the clamps on and his troops followed suit. Nelson was continuing to dominate offensively as Williams reverted into a more traditional PG role as he ran the break and got his teammates open looks, but with Viagra Falls deciding to play a physical brand of basketball and the refs letting a lot go, The Hooters struggled to convert on a lot of their opportunities. Williams again decided to get himself involved on offense as he chimed in with 2 more treys (That were recorded wrongly as a 2 pointer and a 3 to teammate Hawkeye Nelson) and a couple of deuces as The Hooters blew the game wide open on the back of some awesome defense that translated into some easy transition baskets. Captain Winder was riding the refs who were putting on a less than impressive display andthey responded by calling him for his 5th foul, luckily the Snr ref overturned the dodgey call and Winder remained in the game. Despite the result being beyond doubt, the young ref still called Hooters bigman for an unecesry Tech foul late in the game that was also overturned by his more experienced partner. Viagra played the last 10 minutes with just 4 men and it wasn't the cake walk that was expected as they made a mini run, til a stoppage in play saw the Hooters regroup and blow their young opponents away in the final 5 minutes on the back of a box and 1 defense that saw Winder and Nelson unleashed on the Falls poor ball handlers. The OFFICIAL Score says Hooters defeated Viagra Falls 63-29 with Nelson top scoring with 26, Williams 21, Tonkin 10, Cheverton 4, Wood 2 but the TRUE score SHOULD be recorded as Hooters 66-29 top scorers being Williams 25, Nelson 23, etc... Being the tight knit group that we are with team performances being the sole legitimate focus Williams is on record as saying: "Sure I'd love to hold the outright Hooters record for 7 treys in a game, I mean, that'd be close to if not my career high and it's not often you shoot like I did last night, but I guess you can't change history, and as the captain said to me, the scoresheet's the Bible, even IF we all know it's wrong!!!" The Hooters next play their biggest matchup of the season against last years champs, the team that beat them in the most controversial circumstances in last seasons semi-final to book a GF berth! The Hooters could be without their inspirational skipper if Winder is unable to change the tipoff time to avoid a clash of commitments, The Hooters will be in major trouble if they have to tackle the reigning champs without their skipper! |
