| Annual Tomahawk Rally 2006 I'm back from the annual biker pilgramage to N. Wis - Tomahawk Rally -- this year was the 25th Anniversary. Hubby had to go to a Paintball event... to tout his patent pending gadget. I rode up with a friend whose got some acreage up there, but he'll stay for his week's vacation. I ended up deciding to leave early. I woke up yesterday to a cold rainy morning. I called home and found out that it was nice here, and as far as Portage, WI was great. The forecast showed Sunday would be a very cold and all wet with thunderstorms-- so I figured if I rode in pure hell and crap for the first 2 hours -- I'd come out the other side into a gorgeous day for a ride. And, if I waited until Sunday I'd most suredly end up in worse -- all the way. It was so nasty in spots I couldn't see 25 ft in front of my bike, lightening was flashing in the sky, all the over passes were filled.. and the rain had my glasses and helmet windshield blinded in water, but once I reached Steven's Pt... I started relaxing, the rain leveled to a slow drizzle, and eventually looked less and less black. By Portage, I stripped the rain gear off and enjoyed a blissfully quiet solo ride home. I hadn't realized how long it had been since I rode somewhere without thinking for "a group" and could just scoot around looking out for my own ass, only. I ended up taking the tollway all the way -- I had intended to take the back roads, but since it was the "MIDDLE" of the weekend - the highway was quiet, and there's less "drama' when you're not worrying about as$#oles cutting you off, cutting across the road or -- ending up behind some fool who taps his breaks every half mile and goes 10 under the speed limit on a 2 lane hwy. I enjoyed the steady pace of my thoughts on the interstate.... LOL Part of the impetus to leave was the opportunity to spend the evening with Josh- before he headed back to college. He took a week of of his classes (and was now struggling to play catch up on homework).. to play Wilderness Guide for a group of high schoolers (his old HS) - up in the Canadian Boundary Waters. |
