Two Letters

I wrote you a letter
I said it couldn't be,
We had to forget what happened
That night between you and me.

Our feelings must be locked away,
It's for the best we said.
We'll keep them deep within our hearts,
But not inside our heads.

Forgetting is not easy,
It just seems so unfair
For fate to have made us
Such a forbidden pair.

Not a day has passed
Without a thought of you
And the kiss that met our lips
Like a drop of morning dew.

I wish that you could hold me
In the bright blue light of day
Without the frowns and scowls
That would surely come our way.

I wrote another letter
That you will never see,
With words of hope and desire
For a love that cannot be.
