It is a project of HYBRID COMMUNITY SERVICES, and is distributed in paper and web formats each month. This tool supports a wide range of social programs including the "A+ Certification Training Program," which empowers vocationally disadvantaged individuals by providing computer technician training aimed at developing competence in areas of computer design, configuration, upgrade, repair, support, installation, helpdesk, and consulting services. It is a one-year course, requires 2 lab hours per week, and requires the completion and comprehension of assigned reading. Pre-requisites include a preferred 12.8 reading score; however, enhanced interest and good follow-up skills can substitute for the reading score. Program participants must pay for their textbooks, carfare, purchase computer system components from HCS Consulting for assembly within the course, and be willing to purchase nominal quantities of disk media (floppies, CDR's, CDRW's, and blank DVD's). Participants must maintain a 100% attendance record, not fall behind on the reading, complete homework assignments on time, and be entirely punctual to remain in the course--no exceptions). Optional A+ Certification Exams must be paid for by the participant. Taking and passing the A+ Exams is not a requirement of passing the course. It is a difficult course; but the one-year length allows ample time for ultimate comprehension. Openings are limited to 4 per year. You must enroll now for the next (June 2009) course. No tuition fees are required. The course is absolutely free. You are not required to have income of any type, nor will income disqualify you for eligibility.
