Critical Writing #1

Railroads are more efficient than trucks for a number of reasons. First, they are quicker than trucks because they don’t have to go through so much heavy traffic and railroads have a fixed route that goes straight to their destination. Also, because railroads are quicker than trucks, the wheat will be fresher when it reaches the coast of Texas. Truck drivers may demand a larger salary than those conducting on trains, for trains carry more than just one load of cargo, and many conductors are paid by the train company who gets their money from the many other shipments of goods across the country. Therefore, truckers may demand a higher price on driving across the country on their own with only one shipment of goods.

For faster transportation of goods, we suggest that the company in Nebraska ship its goods to Washington to the west instead of Texas to the south. This is so because not only is it more related to a straight line from the USA to China and Indonesia; it avoids the heavy toll costs the Panama Canal charges for the passing of ships. The ships from Washington port can travel to Hawaii for a pit stop of fuel then continue on straight to the Indonesian islands. After shipment of wheat is emptied here, they can travel to major ports in Hong Kong off the coast of China, where the final shipment of wheat can be delivered.

Critical Writing #2
(Day 14) (br> Out of both of the ideas concluded, I would highly suggest that we construct an electric railway to run through the park for transportation versus the 4-lane road construction. This is so because not only is the railroad pollutant-free when cars aren’t, the railroad will take up no more space than 1 lane of traffic, but can transport up to 4 lanes of traffic at double the speed. The extra space allows animals in the park to remain in more isolation from the outside world, and could even save a few lives of animals in terms of ‘road kill.’ An electric railroad will cut down on pollution as well as provide a more comfortable and efficient ride to the park for visitors. The proposed four lane highway will probably, over time and as the park’s reputation grows, run into the same problem as the two lane highway. The highway will also require more maintenance than the railway. The railway is also much smaller than the highway and less noisy. In conclusion, an electric railway is clearly the better choice for the managers of this park.
