| First year students interested in careers in any of the diverse areas of the medical careers are given the opportunity to explore two to three areas in detail while being exposed to a variety of careers. Throught the medical careers program, students have the opportunity to spend three days a week during the secind semester in non-paid internship in two ir three medical fields of their choice including hospitals, nurding homes, dental soffices, medical offices, veterinary offices and child care centers. Students are also taught the basics of the medical profession including body systems, taking patient vital signs, CPR, first aid, giving personal care, making hospital beds, standard precautions and medical terminology. Second year students interested in a career in any diverse areas of medical careers are giving the opportunity to explore one area in detail. The student will spent four days per week for eight months in non-paid internship in a medical field of their choice including hospitals, nursing homes, dental offices, medical offices, veterinary offices and child care centers. Health Occupations Students of America is the vocational student organization that allows students the oppotunity to develop leadership skills as well as offering competitive events at state and national conferences. The program is also offing Certified Nurses Assudtant (CNA) training for interested students. Students must be enrolled in the courses for one full year to be eligible. Senior students will have priority to this training; if space is available other students may also be able to take this training. This is provided in conjunction with Miller's Merry Manor. A student is required to take a skills inventory, submit to a criminal history check, and complete a physical examination. The CNA certification requires that a student meett the practical course and clinical training as well as pass the Sate CNA examination. There is some additional expense for the CNA portion of the class (approximately $10 for criminal history check, and $70 for the state examinaton). |
